Metroid is a futuristic action game that takes place in outer space. After along dormant period, the game has been revived with a series of first person adventure games. The games follow the adventures of bounty hunter Samus Aran.

History

Metroid was created by Gunpei Yokoi. The first game did poorly in Japan, but became quite popular in America. Gunpei Yokoi was involved in Metroid II: Return of Samus and Super Metroid.

After Super Metroid, there was a 8 year period before the next Metroid game. In 2002, Retro Studios released Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion.
