Story
The year is 2112 and Earth has been invaded by evil forces called Quadrunners. After having his village destroyed, Mach Rider gets on his modified motorcycle, searching for survivors and destroying any Quadruuner in his path.
Gameplay
In Mach Rider, the player must race along a course while avoiding obstacles and enemies. At the end of the round, the player is given points for the enemies and obstacles that the player has destroyed. If the player "blocks" an enemy by knocking it into an obstacle, they get extra points as well as replenishing their bullets.
Fighting Course is the main mode. The player continues until he runs out of life. In Endurance Mode, the player must reach a certain distance within a certain time limit. Solo Course is the same as Endurance, but with no enemies. Design Mode allows players to design courses to play in another mode. However, the courses aren't savable because the Famicom Data Recorder was never released in America.
Legacy
The songs from Mach Rider and a trophy of the Mach Rider are both obtainable in Super Smash Bros. Melee. WarioWare: Twisted has a microgame based on Mach Rider.
Ports and Remakes
- In 1985, Mach Rider was ported to arcades.
- Mach Rider was released for download over the Virtual Console in 2007.
