Snorunt is a small ice Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It's only evolved form was initially Glalie, but the fourth generation later introduced Froslass as an alternate evolution.

Information

Snorunt primarily live in environments with heavy snowfall, as they eat snow and ice to survive. During warmer seasons, they hide away deep within caves among stalagmites and stalactites. Snorunt can withstand cold of negative 150 degrees Fahrenheit. They usually move in groups of five and are said to live in harmony under giant leaves. Folklore surrounded a Snorunt says that a house will prosper if a Snorunt appears there. It is also said that if one sees a Snorunt at midnight in a snowy region, it means that it will snow the next day.

Snorunt can evolve into Glalie at Level 42. Alternately, female Snorunt can evolve into Froslass when exposed to the Dawn Stone.

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, they uncommonly appeared within Shoal Cave's Ice Room. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, they appeared at Routes 216 and 217 and Lake Acuity. In Diamond/Pearl, they only appeared with usage of the Pokéradar, while in Platinum they instead showed up normally and were uncommon to fairly common, but they only appeared at night. Snorunt could be caught through the Pokéwalker at the Icy Mountain Road course, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver.

Other Games

A Shadow Snorunt could be snagged from Cipher Peon Exinn at the Shadow Pokémon Laboratory in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it had to be hatched from an egg. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 8, Secret Storage 15, Endless Level 52 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the eighth through ninth floors of Frosty Forest, the first eleven floors of Mt. Faraway, the fiftieth through fifty-seventh floors of Joyous Tower and the fourteenth through fifteenth basement floors of Oddity Cave.

In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at Panula Cave. It was also recruitable in Explorers of Time and Darkness at Blizzard Island, Crevice Cave, Lower Crevice Cave and Mt. Avalanche. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Almia Castle.

Video Games

• In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Snorunt made a cameo appearance in the background of the Pokémon Stadium 2 stage when it was in Ice mode. Its appearance was accompanied by a trophy.

Other Media

• In the Pokémon anime, Snorunt was featured in an episode later in the Hoenn series where one stole Ash's badge case and hat, but Ash was eventually able to catch it. He used it in several battles, including against Juan, and it evolved into a Glalie. One Sinnoh episode also featured Ash's group protecting a wild Snorunt's whole evolutionary family (including Froslass) from a hunter. Snorunt have also made other minor appearances.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Snorunt was shown as one of Glacia's Pokémon. Other Snorunt have made minor appearances in later arcs belonging to minor characters.

Trivia

• Its name is a simple combination of "snow" (due to its Ice type and love of snow) with "runt" (because of its small size).
