Slakoth is a lazy, sloth-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the first in a three-stage evolutionary line, with its evolved forms being Vigoroth and Slaking.

Information

Slakoth usually spends over twenty hours each day just lazing around and sleeping. They are always content to lay around motionless, which may be because their hearts beat only once per minute. Slakoth does not require much food due to its general lack of movement, and its diet usually consists of just around three leaves. Just seeing one can make a person drowsy. It is rare to see a Slakoth in motion. They do not even change their nests for their entire lives. However, they have been known to travel great distances when swimming in rivers.

Slakoth evolves into Vigoroth at Level 18.

Appearances

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, Slakoth could be rarely found at Petalburg Woods. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, they uncommonly appeared at Eterna Forest during swarms. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could only be found when headbutting a certain tree at Route 25. It also appeared in White at the White Forest.

Other Games

Slakoth could be found in the Forest in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Huge Storage 3, Endless Level 50, Forever Level 9 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the tenth through twelfth floors of Sinister Woods and the eighteenth through twentieth floors of Joyous Tower. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Slakoth was recruitable at Crevice Cave and Mt. Avalanche, and a non-playable Slakoth appeared as part of the lazy Team Slacker with Slowpoke. In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at Olive Jungle. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it could be found at Ranger School.

Other Appearances

Other Media

  • In the Pokémon anime, Slakoth was shown in one episode of the Hoenn series as one of the Pokémon that Norman used during his gym battle with Ash, and Ash was able to beat it with his Torkoal. A later episode featured a group of Slakoth living in a Slakoth Banana Garden. They were helpless against a Snorlax that was eating all their fruit until one of them evolved into Vigoroth and defeated it. Slakoth have otherwise made mostly minor appearances.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Norman was shown to own two Slakoth which he tried to use against Rayquaza during a flashback in the Ruby/Sapphire arc.

Trivia

  • Its name is a simple combination of "slack" and "sloth" which doubles as a play on the phrase "slack off".
