Candypop Bud
Origin The Forest Navel
Type Candypop
Debut Pikmin

Candypop Buds are large (compared to Olimar) flowers that appear around the Pikmin planet. If a Pikmin is thrown into one, it will be shot back out and replanted as a seed with the same color as the flower itself. In Pikmin, they could be used an unlimited number of times, but in Pikmin 2 they can only be used five times each and the Queen Candypop Buds can only be used once before they disintegrate. Furthermore, they no longer appear above ground in Pikmin 2; if you return to the cave you found a Candypop Bud inside, it is likely to have grown back.

According to Olimar's notes: "When I throw Pikmin into this flower, they are popped right back out. I have named this very peculiar bloom the candypop bud. It's strange... No matter what color Pikmin I throw in, the one's that pop out match the flower's color!"

Crimson Candypop Bud

#47 Flora rufusia

Crimson Candypop Buds will turn any other colored Pikmin into a Red Pikmin. The first Crimson Candypop Bud is seen in the Forest Navel near the Analog Computer. One each can also be found at the Distant Spring and the Final Trial. In Pikmin 2, Crimson Candypop Buds are found in two caves, making them somewhat uncommon. A Queen Candypop Bud will also produce Red Pikmin if its spots are red when a Pikmin is thrown in.

Scientific Report

  • Olimar's Notes
    • No matter what color Pikmin is tossed into the bosom of this flower, it spits out the same number of red Pikmin seeds. The Pikmin, the candypop flowers, and the Pikmin Onions are not easily explained by current theories of the xenobotanical sciences, and thus have not yet been appropriately studied and classified.
  • Louie's Cooking Notes
    • This spicy flower combusts upon contact with the tongue. Keep fire-retardant condiments within arm's reach!

Golden Candypop Bud

#48 Flora aurumia

Golden Candypop Buds will instantly turn any Pikmin into a Yellow Pikmin. The first one can be found in the Forest Navel before the arena with the Beady Long Legs. Ones can also be found in the Distant Spring and the Final Trial. In Pikmin 2, Golden Candypop Buds are the most elusive of the bunch--they are only found in one cave. A Queen Candypop Bud will also produce Yellow Pikmin if its spots are yellow when a Pikmin is thrown in.

Scientific Report

  • Olimar's Notes
    • No matter what color Pikmin is tossed into the bosom of this flower, it spits out the same number of yellow Pikmin seeds. Current research has yet to produce any theories as to precisely what kind of interaction causes the Pikmin to change color to match the color of this flower's petals.
  • Louie's Cooking Notes
    • This tart flower's acidic juices can burn a hole through a frying pan. Eating it would be unwise.

Lapis Lazuli Candypop Bud

#46 Flora cobaltium

Lapis Lazuli Candypop Buds will turn Pikmin into Blue Pikmin after they've been thrown into it. Two of these appear on opposite ends of the Distant Spring. A third can also be found in the Final Trial. In Pikmin 2, Lapis Lazuli Candypop Buds are found in three caves, making them the most common of the original three. A Queen Candypop Bud will also produce Blue Pikmin if its spots are blue when a Pikmin is thrown in.

Scientific Report

  • Olimar's Notes
    • No matter what color Pikmin is tossed into the bosom of this flower, it spits out the same number of blue Pikmin. This family of plant boasts soft, fleshy leaves, the sinewy tendrils of which allow the flower to open and close repeatedly over the course of a day.
  • Louie's Cooking Notes
    • This flower's tough texture makes it unsuitable for salads, but its bright blue hue makes for a grandiose garnish!

Violet Candypop Bud

#49 Flora puniceus

Violet Candypop Buds are a new type of Candypop Bud introduced in Pikmin 2 that can turn a Pikmin into a Purple Pikmin. They are particularly special due to the fact that they are the only way to obtain Purple Pikmin. Violet Candypop Buds are the most common type--they are found in eleven caves. The first of these is found in the Emergence Cave, as it is necessary to use Purple Pikmin to lift the Spherical Atlas found there. The Violet Candypop Buds in the Emergence Cave do not reappear, however.

Scientific Report

  • Olimar's Notes
    • Research from our most recent expedition has confirmed the presence of candypop buds in subterranean regions. Considering the micro-ecologies this plant has been found in, one could surmise that it could be found in any cavern, regardless of geographic region. Tossing Pikmin into this flower results in the release of Purple Pikmin seeds, regardless of the color of the Pikmin tossed in. This variety of candypop contains robustly odorferous oils. If candypop flowers could be cultivated, there is no doubt that the plants would offer multifaceted benefits to the cosmetic, medical, and tourist industries.
  • Louie's Cooking Notes
    • This convenient purple flower secretes a dark, flavorful oil that eliminates the need for salad dressing!

Ivory Candypop Bud

#50 Flora niveus

Ivory Candypop Buds only appear in Pikmin 2 and have the ability to turn Pikmin into White Pikmin. Because of the lack of a White Onion, they are the only way to collect these kinds of Pikmin and thus rather valuable. In Pikmin 2, Ivory Candypop Buds are found in nine caves. The first of these is found in the aptly named White Flower Garden, though the Ivory Candypop Buds found here will never reappear.

Scientific Report

  • Olimar's Notes
    • Research from our most recent expedition has confirmed the pesence of candypop buds in subterranean regions. Considering the micro-ecologies this plant has been found in, one could surmise that it could be found in any cavern, regardless of geographic region. Tossing Pikmin into this flower results in the release of White Pikmin seeds, regardless of the color of the Pikmin tossed in. In many cases, plants with small leaves typically have limited photosynthetic capabilities, and thus must find alternate means of obtaining nutrients, with parasitic and predatory behavior being most common. The candypop could be considered one such example.
  • Louie's Cooking Notes
    • This elusive flower spoils within seconds of picking, making it unsuitable for cooking.

Queen Candypop Bud

#51 Flora regina

Queen Candypop Buds are a special type of Candypop Bud that will eject nine Pikmin seeds for only one Pikmin that's thrown inside. The color of the seeds is dependant on the color of the bud's spots when the Pikmin is thrown inside; only red, yellow, and blue are possible, and only after those colors of Pikmin have been found. In Pikmin 2, Queen Candypop Buds are found in seven caves.

Scientific Report

  • Olimar's Notes
    • This specimen constantly changes colors. When Pikmin are thrown into it, it shoots out seeds that match the flower's coloration the moment the Pikmin landed inside of it. The number of seeds shot out is always greater than the number of Pikmin thrown in. It can be said that this is a completely baffling plant, and many mysteries remain over precisely what sort os relationship it has with the Pikmin. It would appear that the Pikmin gain all of the benefit from the relationship... Perhaps it is simply a different variety of Pikmin to begin with?
  • Louie's Cooking Notes
    • Eating this flower leads to spectacular, breathtaking indigestion.
