Project Sora was a game development studio that Satoru Iwata and Masahiro Sakurai formed in the aftermath of the success of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It was spun out of Sora Ltd., the small studio that Sakurai had used for development of Brawl. Project Sora was owned primarily by Nintendo, with Sora Ltd. and other third parties owning smaller shares. Its only project is a revival of the Kid Icarus series for the 3DS. While Project Sora was initially slated to work on the fourth Super Smash Bros. as well, the studio ultimately closed its doors after completion of the Kid Icarus game in 2012.

Trivia
- When deciding on what game to make, the other possibility was a Star Fox game, as Sakurai wanted to take advantage of the 3DS by making a game that was like a third person shooter with both air and ground segments, despite the unpopularity of third person shooters in Japan. The choices were narrowed down to Star Fox or Kid Icarus, with Kid Icarus ultimately winning out due to Sakurai felling that the set-up of Star Fox would restrict what he could do with the game and also to appeal to Super Smash Bros. fans wanting him to revive a dormant series.
