Devil World is a maze game for the Nintendo. It was never released in America due to the religious iconography in the game. That makes Devil World the only game designed by Shigeru Miyamoto that never came out in America.

Gameplay

The player controls Tamagon, a green dragon. The player must eat all of the dots in the maze as enemy characters roam the maze and the Devil scrolls the screen in a random direction. In the first stage, Tamagon must collect a cross which only lasts for a short period of time in order to eat dots, as well as breathe fire at enemies. After that, Tamagon enters a maze where four Bibles need to be inserted into four holes in a seal in the center of the maze. Once this one is finished, there is a bonus maze where Tamagon tries to collect bonus boxes within a time limit. This pattern continues through out the game.

There is also a two player option that lets two players play simultaneously. The second player controls a red dragon.

Legacy

Tamagon appears as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee (but was editted out in the game's American release). Also, level 17 of Marathon Mode in Tetris DS is based on Devil World. The character Devil will have an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Rereleases

  • Devil World was released for download over the Japanese Virtual Console in January 2008.
