Piplup is a penguin Pokémon that is the water starter in Diamond and Pearl.

Information

The Piplup is a proud creature that lives in the northern countries along the chilly shores. They are skilled swimmers that can dive for over ten minutes to hunt for their food. Because of that, it does not like accepting food from people. Its thick feathers provide it shelter from the cold.

It resembles a small penguin, though it is not Ice type. At level 16, it will evolve into a Prinplup and an Empoleon at level 36.

Appearances

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl, Piplup is one of the three Pokémon that the player can 'steal' from Professor Rowan. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2, Piplup is one of the starters available from the beginning.

Other Games

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Piplup can be summoned from a PokéBall. It uses the move Surf and will wash away anyone caught in the torrent. It is accompanied by a trophy.

Other Media

Piplup has been featured in the anime as one of the Pokemon belonging to Dawn. Another character, Kenny, has a Piplup that later evolves into a Prinplup.
