Infernape is a fire-crowned, martial artist monkey-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It is the third and final form of the starter Pokémon Chimchar.

Information

Infernape evolves from Monferno at Level 36. Instead of a flaming tail, Infernape has a crown of fire which is indicative of its fiery nature. This flame never goes out. In battle, Infernape fights with a special kind of martial arts using all of its limbs and uses unique fighting moves with fire on its hands and feet. It can toss enemies around with agility. Infernape are known to take on any opponent.

Appearances

Mainstream Games

Infernape has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving a Monferno.

Other Games

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Infernape could be recruited on the sixth through fourteenth basement floors of the Dark Crater Pit. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it appeared at Volcano Cave. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it was found at Mt. Sorbet and the Dark Temple. It was found in Pokémon Rumble at Fiery Furnace. Infernape also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Lava Zone.

Other Appearances

Other Media

  • In the Pokémon anime, Infernape was first featured in the tenth movie as the main Pokémon of supporting character Allegra. During the Sinnoh series, Ash's Monferno evolved into Infernape after it took control of its Blaze-induced rage to save some of the group's Pokémon from being crushed by a collapsing Team Rocket mech. Flint was also shown with his own Infernape which was able to easily defeat Ash's. However, Ash's Infernape had improved its control over its powers which made it useful during the gym fight with Volkner. Despite his focus on using old Pokémon for the Lily of the Valley Conference, he did use Infernape for several more battles, including the final battle with Paul, where it took out most of Paul's Pokémon. It was then left behind at Professor Oak's lab when Ash moved on to Unova.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Pearl's Monferno evolved into Infernape at the same time that Pearl's Grotle evolved into Torterra while they were fighting off members of Team Galactic at Veilstone City alongside Platina's true bodyguards. Pearl has consistently used it since then due to its speed and power as one of his main Pokémon.

Trivia

  • Its name is a combination of "inferno" and "ape". Infernape's appearance also appeared to be inspired by Son Goku, the Japanese interpretation of the Monkey King Sun Wukong from the Chinese epic Journey to the West.
