The Axem Rangers are a team of axe-wielding robots found in Super Mario RPG. They are the fourth of the Smithy Gang members in the game and are battled to gain the sixth Star Piece.

Background

The Axem Rangers were created in Smithy's Factory. This fighting force was sent after the Star Piece hidden within Barrel Volcano. They swiped it just as Mario was about to retrieve it. They then retreated to Smithy's flying ship, the Blade, in order to bring the Star Piece back to Smithy. But Mario followed them and battled them aboard the Blade.

At first, the Axem Rangers bragged and taunted Mario's group. But as each of them lost their HP, they made up excuses not to battle. After all were defeated, they pulled back and manned the Blade's Breaker Beam in a last-ditch attempt to destroy Mario and his friends. But Mario still won. The Blade went down with flames, and the Axem Rangers with it.

Despite the destruction of the original Axem Rangers, weaker Machine-Made versions of them were mass-produced at Smithy's Factory until it was shut down.

Members

There are five members, each with their own distinct strengths and weaknesses.

• Axem Black
  • HP: 550, Attack: 140, Defense: 120, Magic Attack: 4, Magic Defense: 40
  • "You're timing stinks!"
  • Black wore shades to complete his "cool guy" image. His special attack was the Spritz Bomb. Physically, he was the third-powerful. He was also weakest in terms of magic abilities. Black has no fear (and thus has special defense against Fear attacks) but is weak against Thunder attacks.
• Axem Green
  • HP: 450, Attack: 110, Defense: 60, Magic Attack: 90, Magic Defense: 120
  • "Are we done here?"
  • Green was the thin and spindly robot. He is the most powerful magic-user in the group. Green's special techniques were Elegy, Solidify, Static E! and Meteor Blast. Green has special defense against silencing moves, but is weak against Ice attacks.
• Axem Pink
  • HP: 400, Attack: 120, Defense: 80, Magic Attack: 80, Magic Defense: 100
  • "Red, WRONG POSITION!"
  • Pink was the token female of the group. Thus her specialty is healing magic such as Recover and Mega Recover. Her only other special ability is Petal Blast. She is the second most powerful magic user of the team, behind Green. Pink has special defenses against Ice and Silence, but is weak against Fire attacks.
• Axem Red
  • HP: 800, Attack: 150, Defense: 100, Magic Attack: 24, Magic Defense: 80
  • "I'm all thumbs today."
  • Red is the leader of the Axem Rangers, and constantly struggling to keep his followers in line. He has the highest HP and is the second strongest physically of the team. Red's only special move is Vigor Up. His weakness is Ice attacks, but he has special defenses against Fire and Fear attacks.
• Axem Yellow
  • HP: 600, Attack: 170, Defense: 130, Magic Attack: 6, Magic Defense: 60
  • "We're lookin' GOOD!"
  • Yellow is a portly member of the team with a love for food. Physically, he is the team's most powerful member although his Magic stats are low. His only special move is Body Slam. Yellow is weak against Jump attacks, but he has special defenses against Thunder and Poison attacks.
• Axem Rangers
  • HP: 999, Attack: 0, Defense: 100, Magic Attack: 120, Magic Defense: 100
  • "It's a melee!"
  • When every member except one is defeated the Axem Rangers use their ship and its powerful cannon that fires every 3 turns with devastating results.

Trivia

• They are a parody of the Power Rangers. They are also a likely inspiration for the Koopa Bros. (another comical parody of a superhero team) in Paper Mario.
