The younger of two twin siblings, Luigi is often considered the least popular of the duo. This is not altogether true, since he has his own fan club in the Mushroom World and has been known to go on adventures himself. Although not nearly as popular as his older brother, he does have several key advantages. While not nearly as graceful, he has proved himself to be superior in jumping to Mario on many occasions. He has also been known to be more inclined to technology than his brother, though that alone may just be attributed to circumstances.

Background

After being kidnapped by Bowser in 'Super Mario Bros.', she suffers the same fate in 'Lost Levels', both times rescued by Mario and Luigi. In 'Super Mario Bros. 2' she shows she can keep up with the two brothers and helps to save Sub-Con. In 'Super Mario Bros. 3' she instructs Mario to help rescue several kings in the surrounding lands, but just as the brothers succeed, she too is kidnapped. As usual, she is once more rescued again. In 'Super Mario World', while vacationing with the brothers, she was kidnapped by Bowser and subsequently rescued. In 'Super Mario RPG', she was kidnapped by Bowser, but before Mario could rescue her, she was sent flying through the sky by Exor's arrival. She spent some time locked in Booster's Tower, when she was rescued by Mario and Bowser. At that point she traveled with Mario on his quest to stop Smithy.

In 'Mario 64', after she was kidnapped by Bowser shortly after inviting Mario over for cake, she was (unsurprisingly) yet again rescued. In 'Paper Mario', her castle was lifted high in the air and was locked in her room. With the help of Twink, she provided invaluable information to Mario on his quest. In 'Super Mario Sunshine', she is kidnapped while vacationing on Delfino Island, by none other than Shadow Mario. She is startled to find out that Bowser Jr. thinks she is his mother. She is (surprise!) rescued by Mario again and they enjoy the remainder of their vacation. In 'Mario & Luigi' she is about to be kidnapped, but thanks to some inside info, she quickly replaces herself with a dud. Once revealed to not have been kidnapped, she assists the brothers in a small way throughout the adventure. In 'Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door', while vacationing with Toadsworth, she finds a treasure map to the Crystal Stars. While it is in route to Mario, she is kidnapped by the X-Nauts. At their hidden base, she befriends the computer TEC and helps provide Mario with some information throughout his quest. In 'New Super Mario Bros.', Peach is yet again kidnapped by Bowser Jr. and carried across eight worlds before she is finally rescued by Mario.

Personality

Peach as a baby.

Peach is characteristically defined as being the nicest person you could hope to meet. Although her kingdom may lack in fundamental things such as a real military force, the people in it are generally prosperous and there is very little hardship. Though she has been kidnapped by Bowser multiple times, many of those times she has made some effort to assist Mario and Luigi in some way (whether it's throwing a Super Mushroom from the Clown Copter or sending intel she found). She has also done some work in helping other kingdoms, even if it's just sending the two plumbers to help, such as in 'Yoshi's Safari' when she sends them to help Jewelry Land. She also has large celebrity fame on the level of Mario (if not more). She has many fans and admirers around the world. Her voice itself is also considered to be exceptionally pure, so much that only hers could awaken the Beanstar. Like most of Mario's friends, she's an active racer and enjoys tennis and golf.

Trivia

  • The name 'Toadstool' is never in the Japanese games. It was a creation of translators that was later fixed in later games (most notably Mario 64) to be her name 'Peach'. As a result, Toadstool became her surname, despite not being 'canon' in Japan.
  • Her father, the Mushroom King, is mentioned in the manual of Super Mario Bros. but never officially appeared. In the movie, the Mushroom King literally IS a mushroom fungus that covers the entire dinosaur city.
  • She's not the first girl to be rescued by Mario. Pauline has to be rescued in the game that started it all - Donkey Kong.
  • In SMB3, she says "Sorry, but you're princess is in another castle... haha! Just kidding" like the mushroom retainers do in SMB and Lost Levels.
