Tiki Tong is the leader of the Tiki Tak tribe who acts as the antagonist of Donkey Kong Country Returns.
Background
The origins of the Tiki Tak Tribe are unknown, but they apparently laid dormant within the volcano of Donkey Kong Island for ages. Tiki Tong himself was their leader and seemed to be powered by bananas, as were the rest of the Tiki Tak Tribe. During the time of Donkey Kong Country Returns, the tribe was revived by a volcanic eruption. Tiki Tong himself took on the form of a giant Tiki head.
Working underneath Tiki Tong were a set o seven Tikis that resembled musical instruments. Tiki Tong dispatched them across the island to hypnotize the island's animals into working for them and stealing bananas. These bananas were crushed up by one of the animals under their control, Colonel Pluck, and were used to power new Tikis. Tiki Tong remained at the the volcano at the top of his own tower. Everything seemed to be within his grasp, except that Donkey Kong proved to be immune to the Tiki hypnosis. Donkey Kong and his sidekick Diddy Kong fought through the Tiki forces to retrieve the bananas.
All seven of Tiki Tong's underlings were defeated, and they then returned to the tower. When Donkey Kong and Diddy arrived at the tower, Tiki Tong ate a large pile of bananas and then regurgitated a juice which transformed the seven Tikis into a pair of hands that he could control. Tiki Tong then attempted to crush both of the Kongs. By stomping the jewels on the back of each hand, the hands were eventually destroyed in a shower of bananas. Tiki Tong then floated around and tried to drop down atop the Kongs and also released Flaming Tiki Buzzes. Every time it dropped down, Tiki Tong caused a shock wave, although the top of its head also popped into the air to reveal a button on the top of its head.
After the button was stomped down three times, Tiki Tong cracked and exploded violently enough to sent one of the Kongs flying to the moon. Any of its remains, as well as Tiki Tong's tower, seemed to be destroyed when the moon fell on the volcano.
Trivia
- Its last name is a play on "Kong", likely to emphasize its role as a nemesis of Donkey Kong.
