Zorua is a unique black fox Pokémon with powers of illusion that was introduced in the fifth generation Pokémon games. Its evolved form is Zoroark. Zorua is special in that it and/or Zoroark are primarily obtained in Pokémon: Black and White Versions using Pokémon obtained from Nintendo events.
Information
Zorua is a small black fox Pokémon that uses illusions to take on the appearances of other people and Pokémon. It usually utilizes this ability to protect itself from danger as well as to surprise others. Most disguised Zorua only reveal their true forms after being defeated. Zorua have been known to often take on the form of small children.
It evolves into Zoroark at Level 30.
Appearances
Mainstream Games
In Black and White, a lost Zorua was disguised as a small silent boy in the Game Freak lobby at Castelia City. Zorua reveals its true form only if the player approaches it while it has a Celebi obtained from a Nintendo event. Zorua and the Celebi communicate, which results in Zorua willingly deciding to become one of the player's Pokémon. The player can then choose which Poké ball to catch it with.
Other Appearances
Other Media
- In the Pokémon anime, Zorua was featured in the thirteenth movie where Grings Kodai held one hostage to force its Zoroark mother into destroying Crown City. Zorua escaped and befriended Ash's group as well as a Celebi before Grings captured him again with Celebi. However, the two of them were later able to help Zoroark and the three Crown Beasts to defeat Grings.
Trivia
- Its name is a combination of "zorro" (which is Spanish for "fox") and "rua" (the Irish word for red which also resembles the Japanese word for red, referring to its tuft of red fur).
- Zorua and Zoroark were the first Pokémon from the fifth generation to be revealed officially to the public, before Black and White were actually announced.
