Shiftry is a a fan-wielding ancient wooden Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the third and final form in Seedot's evolutionary line.

Information[edit]

Shiftry evolves from Nuzleaf when exposed to a Leaf Stone. Shiftry is a mysterious Pokémon said to live atop towering trees which date back thousands of years. They live quietly within deep forests and have been feared since long ago as forest guardians. Shiftry are said to arrive on chilly, wintry winds, which they can produce with the large fans which they wield. These fans can generate awesome gusts of wind at speeds of 100 feet per second, which can level houses, and can even create large windstorms. Shiftry is also capable of reading its opponent's mind in order to take preemptive action.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

Shiftry has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving a Nuzleaf.

Other Games[edit]

It could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Endless Level 7, Forever Level 56, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the twelfth through twentieth floors of Western Cave and the sixty-eighth through seventy-fourth floors of Buried Relic, and a non-playable Shiftry appeared as the leader of Team Shifty. In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at Sekra Mountain Range. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, it could be recruited at Lost Wilderness. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Shiftry could be caught at Vien Forest and Capture Arena.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • Shiftry was featured in an episode of the Pokémon anime's Hoenn series in which one captured Nurse Joy in order to get her to treat a wounded Nuzleaf at its colony. In later episodes, Tyson and Spenser have both used Shiftry in battle. An episode of the Sinnoh series also showed a Shiftry leading a colony of Seedot and Nuzleaf.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a Shiftry was featured in a chapter of the Ruby/Sapphire arc where it tried to attack Norman, only for Norman to easily get the drop on and defeat it using his Slaking. They have also made more minor appearances in this and the Emerald arc.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "shifty" with a play on "tree". They are based on the Tengu from Japanese folklore.
