Ralts is a rare, emotionally attuned Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the first in a three-stage evolutionary line, with its evolved forms being Kirlia and either Gardevoir or (if male and starting in the fourth generation) Gallade.

Information[edit]

Ralts has a pair of horns on its head which sense the emotions of others nearby. It rarely appears before people, but if so it will draw closer if the person has a positive disposition. Ralts hide from people who have hostile emotions. Their bodies warm up slightly when they capture the warm feelings of people and Pokémon, and they grow cheerful and joyous to match the mood of their trainers.

Ralts evolves into Kirlia at Level 20.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Ralts was rarely found at Route 102. The player also showed Wally how to catch a Ralts which acted as the games' mandatory tutorial, and the Ralts then acted as Wally's main Pokémon, eventually evolving into a Gardevoir.

In Diamond and Pearl, it could appear at Routes 203 and 204 (the northern part) when using the Poké Radar. In Platinum, it instead appeared uncommonly at Routes 208, 209 and 212 (during daytime only). In HeartGold and SoulSilver, they could appear at Route 34 in swarms. It was also found in White at the White Forest.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, a Shadow Ralts could be snagged from Cipher Peon Feldas at Pyrite Town, and after being purified it could be transferred to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it had to be hatched from an egg. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Huge Storage 1, Endless Level 12, Forever Level 12 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Ralts could be recruited at the eleventh through thirteenth floors of Wish Cave, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness it was found at the first nine floors of Treeshroud Forest. In Pokémon Ranger, it appeared at the Sekra Mountain Range. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it could be found at the Cargo Ship. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, they were found at Hinder Cape and the Dark Temple.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • One episode of the Pokémon anime during the Hoenn series featured Max taking care of a sick Ralts and promising to come back for it when he became an actual trainer. Other Ralts have appeared in minor appearances, such as part of a group of partying psychic-type Pokémon.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, the Ruby/Sapphire arc also involves Wally obtaining a Ralts through Ruby's help, but under different conditions. The Ralts started off as one of Ruby's Pokémon, and he lent it to Wally in order to help him catch his own Pokémon. Ruby got lost shortly afterwards due to a raging river, and Wally was stuck with the Ralts. Wally used it while training under Norman, and it evolved into a Kirlia then. Wally felt guilty about using Ruby's Pokémon, although Norman had actually gotten the Ralts for Ruby to begin with so he saw no problem with Wally's actions.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name origin is uncertain but could be a play on "waltz" (due to the evolutionary line's association with dancing) or possibly a partial anagram of "astral" (due to its psychic abilities).
