Dozla is a recruitable unit from Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.

Background

Dozla was an aging but powerful warrior who served the royal house of Rausten. He was somewhat simple-minded and good-willed, and he was known to eat often. Dozla took care of the princess, L'Arachel, since she was a child, and he was impressed by her. When L'Arachel grew and began her anonymous campaign during the War of the Stones, Dozla accompanied her to protect her and expressed complete dedication to all of her actions. A mercenary, Rennac, was also hired to help them get by. Dozla apparently did not get many tasks from L'Arachel due to his dim wit, but this also gave him a lot of free time. L'Arachel's group first showed up in "Chapter 4: Ancient Horrors", where they tried to help Eirika's group fight off monsters, but they did not reach them until the battle was already over. During the ensuing conversation, it was Dozla who stopped L'Arachel from revealing her true identity, as Pontifex Mansel had allowed her to go on this campaign only if she kept her true identity secret. The group sought passage back to Rausten, but they had trouble finding a ship that would sail while the phantom ship roamed the seas.

In Eirika's path, they briefly met Eirika's group at Port Karis while eating sugar pastries in "Chapter 9: Distant Blade". They then departed to try taking the land route to Rausten, with Dozla eagerly seeing this as a contest to see who does not drop from exhaustion. They initially ran in the wrong direction and wound up lost in the mountains, as well as having been ditched by Rennac, in "Chapter 11: Creeping Darkness". L'Arachel and Dozla crossed paths with Eirika's group again at this time and helped them to fight off monsters. They joined with her group afterwards since Eirika knew where they were and was also heading to Rausten. In Ephraim's path, the three of them instead met with Ephraim's group by a port at the end of "Chapter 10: Turning Traitor", and L'Arachel instead decided to try to find and stop the ghost ship. L'Arachel and Dozla were able to find their own ship, but Rennac ditched them before they boarded. They met with Ephraim's ship to help them fight off the forces of the phantom ship, and they joined with Ephraim's forces afterwards to help him fight off Grado. Regardless of the path, he remained part of Ephraim and Eirika's combined forces until the end of the War of the Stones, and he then returned to Rausten with L'Arachel and Rennac.

Dozla has a paired ending with only L'Arachel (achieved by the two reaching an A Rank Support), but both that ending and his default ending have the same end result. Dozla remained by her side always, including the time when L'Arachel was made queen of Rausten and the time when she was wed. Dozla wept like a baby at the wedding ceremony, and his emotional outburst was remembered as much as or moreso than the ceremony itself. Watching her become queen was described as the greatest joy in Dozla's life.

Support Conversation Summaries

Dozla is capable of having support conversations with four other characters:

• Ewan - Dozla and Ewan meet each other, with Dozla immediately noticing Ewan's energetic nature. Ewan tells Dozla about an idea he has to fill battlegrounds with plants to make them more colorful and beautiful, which would increase the army's morale. However, he has no idea how to go about this, and he does not want to use his magic to help because then his magic would overshadow the effect of the plants. Dozla remains supportive of Ewan and tells him the value of youth's dreams. Ewan is excited by this and he decides to start referring to him as Uncle Dozla. In the next conversation, Ewan is in high spirits as always, although Dozla is a bit tired from all the walking he has to do and wishes there was an easier way to move around. Ewan uses this as a clean transition to his latest idea. He mentions coaches, which the group has only one of, but Dozla goes over the disadvantages such as all the terrain that coaches cannot cross. Ewan tells Dozla that his plan is actually for a flying coach, although this is another idea that he really does not know how to pull off. He notes that pegasii would probably be too selective to pull these coaches, but he and Dozla still go over the advantages that would come from such a transport. In the final conversation, Ewan tells Dozla about his latest idea, which is for a type of long-distance communication. He knows of some magical devices with such capabilities, but he wishes there was a way for all people to communicate with each other instantly (basically describing the concept of the telephone). Dozla has trouble wrapping his head around the idea, and Ewan tells him that he uses to get in trouble for his outlandish ideas. Dozla remains supportive and tells him that most great ideas seem outlandish at first. Ewan is glad that Dozla has time to listen to him, and Dozla tells him that he can tell he will grow into an interesting man and that he looks forward to the day that one of his ideas becomes reality. Ewan says he can oddly almost imagine a world like that. Dozla decides he must remain alive for that day, and Ewan reminds him he will have to remain his friend as well.
• Garcia - In the first conversation, Garcia notes Dozla's great energy which Dozla says comes from stuffing himself. Garcia misinterprets this as meaning with food and begins bantering with Dozla about the importance of breakfast as well as the very origin of the word, but Dozla says that he was actually stuffing himself with knowledge by studying other disciplines. They talk about the importance of versatility and both express interest in archery, at which point they agree to study it together. In the second conversation, the two joke around about how abysmally they had performed in their archery lessons. They realize that they must be able to be good at something other than axe-wielding and endeavor to try out magic next. In the third conversation, they once more joke about how abysmally their magic lessons turned out, with Dozla accidentally burning off Garcia's beard (but somehow regrowing it, presumably with some type of magic). They agree that they learned much from the foray into other disciplines and show interest in sword-fighting next.
• L'Arachel - L'Arachel tells Dozla about how a visit to nearby village depressed her because they had never heard of her. Dozla is astounded that such a thing happened despite her anonymous campaign to rid the world of monstrosities. She goes over her aspirations to be like her sacred ancestor and thinks they will have to change their methodology to appeal to the common people and win their hearts. She asks Dozla to think of ideas, and he heartily agrees. In the next conversation, Dozla suggests that they think of a cool epithet because all heroes have had two names. His suggestion ("the green-haired battle princess") is vetoed by L'Arachel, who instead decides to use her own idea by calling herself "the beautiful princess of peerless beauty". She then tasks him with spreading the name around in a nonchalant manner, and he once more agrees. In the final conversation, she finds she was successful when Dozla tells her that some villagers referred to her by her nickname, after L'Arachel had taken three long trips around that village. L'Arachel is concerned that no imitators have arisen yet, but Dozla assures her that it is because the "peerless" in her nickname is true. L'Arachel continues to describe her own magnificence with her usual hyperbole, even lamenting that one day the world would be robbed of her beauty. They then head out to battle so that L'Arachel can try to do something spectacular to ensure that her name is remembered.
• Myrrh - Myrrh stumbles upon Dozla, who thinks she reminds him of a young L'Arachel and asks her age. She considers this rude and only after Dozla says that he is 47 does she reveal that she is actually over 1200 years old, although Dozla seems to think this is a joke. In the next conversation, Myrrh and Dozla cross paths while they are looking for Ephraim and L'Arachel, respectively. Myrrh suggests they are together because she recalls seeing both of them talking on familiar terms together earlier and getting a funny feeling in her chest. Dozla realizes she is feeling love, but mistakenly thinks that Myrrh is in love with L'Arachel. In the final conversation, Dozla offers to protect Myrrh and she notes he reminds her of his father, which starts to lead her to cry due to his fate. Dozla offers to comfort her by letting her tug on his beard, which cheers her up and she thanks him.
• Rennac - In the first conversation, Dozla warmly welcomes Rennac back to the fold, and Rennac complains that Dozla is horrible at reading people and that he hates that he continuously winds up serving L'Arachel in battle. Rennac points out the difference between there jobs in that Dozla is a sworn vassal while Rennac is a temporary employee, and he decides to demand 50,000 gold from Mansel when they return to Rausten. Dozla misunderstands his figure of speech and thinks that he wants 50,000 ears, and he begins to work out how that would be done. In the next conversation, Rennac laments that life is hollow and meaningless, and Dozla fumbles with a simplistic answer about the basic definition of life, then he sidetracks himself into thinking about food. Rennac envies both him and L'Arachel due to the fact that they seem to have no worries in the world. He also goes on about his background and his love for money, and he points out that L'Arachel's ability to make them jump through hoops while being overbearing and egotistical is a skill that most normal people do not possess. Dozla assures him that the princess makes the impossible possible and guesses that he is with her because she made a deep impression on him as well. Rennac compares his situation to a type of brain freeze, and Dozla once more misunderstands his figure of speech and offers to thaw out his head. Rennac shouts at him correcting him, but Dozla was just teasing him. Rennac sighs that the two of them make a good pair, as Dozla was the only one who could keep up with L'Arachel. In the final conversation, Dozla fears that he may not survive the war due to his age, and he tells Rennac that his dream is to see L'Arachel happily wed one day. Rennac points out that finding a worthy prince who was willing to marry L'Arachel would be no easy task. Dozla asks Rennac to take care of the princess for him if he does not make it, but this makes Rennac flip out and refuse, once more citing that he just wants to get his pay and disappear. Dozla is disappointed by Rennac's cold response and begins to describe what the wedding ceremony would be like. Rennac begins to play along and offers some sardonic commentary which ends in Dozla describing L'Arachel recruiting Rennac into being her guard on her honeymoon. Rennac tells Dozla he is getting carried away, but Dozla tells him that he is now a true vassal to L'Arachel, body and soul. Rennac is left with a terrible feeling that he will never be free of L'Arachel.
