Mimi
Debut Super Paper Mario

Mimi is a shape-shifter who serves as a minion of Count Bleck and a recurring boss (being battled three times over the course of the game) in Super Paper Mario. Her most common form is that of a young girl. However, she has also transformed into a giant spider-like creature in two of the boss battles. She also has an obsession with gems called Rubees (suspiciously similar to the Rupee of the Zelda games). In battle she used the Rubees as weapons.

Their are two different explanations given for her origin. One says that she was a failed Pixl experiment of the Ancients. Another says that she was created by a witch who was researching potions to allow shape-shifting. Either way, she was a dangerous individual with little regards for the lives of others.

Count Bleck deployed Mimi in Chapter 2. She occupied Merlee's Mansion and forced Merlee into hiding so she could not give her Pure Heart to Mario. Mimi posed as Merlee's maid and tricked visitors into breaking fragile objects in the mansion. She would then put an insurmountable debt on it and force them to pay it off in the force of Rubees, which they had to earn by working in the sweatshop hidden in the back of the mansion. However, Mario became the first person to pay off the debt.

When Mario grew close to Merlee's hiding place, Mimi transformed into her spider form and attempted to chase Mario down. She was protected from attack by an impenetrable force field. Mario eventually found Merlee in the lady's restroom, but Mimi attempted to confuse Mario by transforming into Merlee. A game show was held to determine who was the true Merlee. When Mimi's cover was blown, she transformed back into spider form and attacked Mario. However, Merlee used a magical cheer to break through Mimi's force field. Mario was then able to defeat Mimi.

Mimi later snuck out of Castle Bleck against Nastasia's orders in Chapter 6. She battled Mario in Chapter 6-2: The End of a World, in the Sammer Kingdom tournament. This time she remained in her little girl form and attempted to protect herself with a ring of Rubees. After being defeated again, Mimi retreated but revealed that he true purpose had only been to stall Mario while the Sammer Kingdom was being sucked into Count Bleck's Void.

In Chapter 8-2: The Crash, Mimi confronted Mario's group one last time after they passed through another area of her traps. Princess Peach in particular was angry at Mimi and took her on in one-on-one battle. After Mimi was defeated, Mario's group began to pass on while the castle began falling apart. However, Princess Peach stayed behind to make sure Mimi was alright. Peach said that she didn't care for Mimi, but she also had a need to help others. This seemed to reach out to Mimi. The two fell down a pit, but were saved from certain doom when Bowser broke their fall. Mimi later led O'Chunks to a pocket dimension where the count had been imprisoned, and offered him moral support in his final moments before he disappeared from this world.

After the final chapter, Mimi returned to Merlee's Mansion. This time Merlee had really hired her as her maid, because her mansion needed tending to after she had moved to Flopside. Mimi still ran her old sweatshop schemes in the back of the mansion, however.

Trivia

  • Her Catch Card description hints that she, too, had a crush on Count Bleck.
