Lunatone is a moon-like extraterrestrial Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It has no evolutionary line, but it has a companion /Pokémon in the form of Solrock.

Information[edit]

Lunatone was discovered forty years ago at a meteorite's crash site and has been theorized to hail from outer space, but nothing there is no conclusive proof. It also becomes active during nights of full moons and is linked to the lunar phases, as their health has been shown to ebb and flow with the lunar cycle. Lunatone floats instead of walking, and it has intimidating red eyes which fill others with fear. Lunatone's stare can also lull others to sleep.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Sapphire Version, Lunatone was found at the Meteor Falls both on foot and by surfing, being somewhat common through the first method and less common through the latter method. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Lunatone could uncommonly appear at Mt. Coronet, Lake Acuity, Lake Verity, Lake Valor, Turnback Cave and Sendoff Spring when a Sapphire cartridge was present in the GBA slot. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could appear at the Safari Zone's Mountain area when enough Rock objects were present. In Black and White, it uncommonly appeared at Route 13 and the Giant Chasm.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, a Shadow Lunatone could be snagged from Snattle at Phenac Stadium, and after being purified it could be transferred to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it could be found at the Cave on the Sapphire Field. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at the Phobosphere, Endless Level 7, Forever Level 7 and Mr. Who's Den, and a symbol of Lunatone was used as the logo for the Phobos Battalion. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the first eleven floors of Sky Tower, the first five floors of Mt. Faraway, the eighth through twelfth floors of Solar Cave and the eightieth through eighty-seventh floors of Joyous Tower. Lunatone could also be recruited in Explorers of Time and Darkness at the sixth through ninth basement floors of the Deep Spacial Rift.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Lunatone was featured in an episode of the Hoenn series where it was sought by the Pokémon Mystery Club. It was also featured as Liza's Pokémon alongside Tate's Solrock during their gym battle with Ash.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Lunatone was also used by Liza during the Ruby/Sapphire arc.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "Luna" (which is the Latin word for "moon") with "stone".
