Cedric Juniper is the father of Professor Juniper who appeared as a supporting character in Pokémon: Black and White Versions.

Background

Cedric Juniper was a seasoned Pokémon professor who operated in Unova and was world-renowned. He was a fairly affable man who loved the adventure of exploring, even as he grew older. His daughter was Aurea Juniper, who also became a professor and eventually inhabited his laboratory at Nuvema Town. Cedric spent most of his time traveling across Unova and other regions to research. He still did spent some time at the lab and suggested topics for his daughter to research. Cedric spent some time in Mistralton City, where he often had Skyla take him to other regions such as Kanto and Sinnoh in her cargo plane. Skyla was increasingly agitated by his requests, as she was technically only supposed to transport cargo with her plane. In return, Cedric usually encouraged her to be less uptight.

Within Black and White, it was first mentioned that he had told her to research Klink at Chargestone Cavern. Hilbert/Hilda met him at the other side of the cave at Mistralton. He recognized the trainer from his daughter's description and was familiar with their exploits. Cedric was able to upgrade the trainer's Pokédex so that it could record different Pokémon forms, and he also upgraded its search function. He then introduced Hilbert/Hilda to Skyla and recommended her gym. He then traveled to Iccirus CIty to investigate Dragonspiral Tower since it was said to be Unova's oldest building. However, Cedric was there around the time that Team Plasma targeted it for the legendary Pokémon (Zekrom in Black or Reshiram in White). He also met Bianca when she approached the tower with Hilbert/Hilda. After Team Plasma had succeeded in taking the legendary Pokémon, the matter was discussed amongst a group which included himself, Alder (whom Cedric was glad to see), Hilbert/Hilda, Cheren, Bianca and Brycen. Juniper decided to continue investigating the tower while having his daughter look into the tower's exact age, and Brycen joined him in the tower.

The findings showed that the tower originated in the same era as the mysterious stone (the Light Stone in Black or the Dark Stone in White) that was being kept in Nacrene City Museum. Cedric then met with the group that formed at Nacrene City to detail his findings. He also reminded Hilbert/Hilda that they would always have Pokémon at their side. Cedric Juniper later returned to the lab at Nuvema City. After Team Plasma's downfall, Cedric Juniper updated the Pokédexes of Hilbert/Hilda, Bianca and Cheren with a National Mode. He then evaluated their progress in filling the National Pokédex whenever they visited.

Trivia

  • He was only given a first name in the English release; in the Japanese version, both Junipers were confusingly referred to only by their last name. The name "Cedric" seems to come from "cedar", which is a tree in the same family as the juniper.
  • Cedric and his daughter both used to be Backpackers, according to one Backpacker.
  • Cedric is actually first mentioned early in the game when the player can examine a picture of him with his daughter at Professor Juniper's lab. However, he is only referred to as a smiling man, and he it is not until after meeting him that he is actually identified when looking at the picture.
  • By providing the National Pokédex, Cedric Juniper fulfills the role that had come to be associated with Professor Oak in other generations.
