Metang is a durable steel Pokémon with claws that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the middle form of Beldum's evolutionary line and evolves into Metagross.

Information

Metang evolves from Beldum at Level 20, at which point two Beldum will fuse together to form Metang (although in-game this process will only occur with one Beldum). The two Beldum brains are linked by a magnetic nervous system, and this allows Metang to generate great psychokinetic power. It has a metallic body with a face and two clawed arms. Metang uses magnetic force to float in the air and turns its arms to the rear to fly at high speeds that are over 60 miles per hour. Metang are also durable enough that they are not phased by collisions with jets. Its claws are also capable of tearing through thick iron sheets as if they were silk.

Metang can evolve into Metagross at Level 45.

Mainstream Games

In most games, Metang could only be obtained by evolving a Beldum. In Pokémon: HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions, Metang could appear at the Safari Zone's Mountain area if enough Rock objects were present. In Black and White, it was uncommonly found at the Giant Chasm Crater.

Other Games

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, Metang could only be obtained through evolution. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Huge Storage 5 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the first four floors of Frosty Grotto, the sixty-second through sixty-fourth floors of Wish Cave, the eighth through twelfth floors of Solar Cave and the fifty-sixth through sixty-first floors of Joyous Tower. In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at the Go-Rock Squad Base. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, it could be recruited at at Sky Stairway. Metang also appeared in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at the Oblivia Ruins and Dark Temple,

Other Media

• In the Pokémon anime, Metang appeared during the Hoenn series when Morrison's Beldum evolved into one while fighting at the Ever Grande Conference. He used it in several battles, but it was ultimately defeated by Ash's Glalie. Other Metang have made minor appearances.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Steven Stone was shown to own several Metang during the Ruby/Sapphire arc, and he used one to dig for rare stones.

Trivia

• Its name is a combination of "metal" with "clang" (which represents a sound made by hitting types of metal).
