The Bomb Arrow is a specialized type of arrow that can be used in several games of the The Legend of Zelda series. As the name implies, it combines an arrow with the bomb item.
Information[edit]
The Bomb Arrow is essentially an arrow with a bomb attached to the end of it. It can be fired by a bow and will detonate upon hitting a target. The explosions make Bomb Arrows much more powerful than normal arrows, and they could also be used to clear away distant obstacles. Beyond that, their individual properties and how they are used differ depending on the individual game.
Appearances[edit]
Bomb Arrows initially made an unofficial appearance in Link's Awakening. Link had to equip both the bomb and the bow, and then the player had to press both buttons at the same time. This caused the arrow to carry the bomb, effectively forming a Bomb Arrow.
The first official appearance was in Twilight Princess, where they were used by equipping the bow and selecting bombs. Each Bomb Arrow used up an individual bomb and arrow from Link's inventory, and they were used to clear obstacles at the Lakebed Temple. The primary drawback to them in this game was that they would explode if Link waiting too long to fire it. In Spirit Tracks, they were not obtained by Link, but they were fired by enemy Bulblins when they attacked his train. Link could destroy the Bomb Arrows with shots from his train's cannon.
In Breath of the Wild, Bomb Arrows were produced as their own individual item with their own replenishible stock instead of requiring normal arrows and bombs. Like most items in this game, they could be obtained through various means throughout the game's expansive setting with no specific way to first gain them. Bomb Arrows could be found in treasure chests, purchased from shops or dropped by some defeated enemies. There were several drawbacks to the Bomb Arrow in this game, as they would not detonate in the rain, and attempting to use one in volcanic areas would cause the arrow to detonate immediately before Link could fire it. Bomb Arrows were also fired by several enemies in the game.
Other Appearances[edit]
Video Games[edit]
- In Hyrule Warriors, some of Linkle's moves involved firing Bomb Arrows, and her Focus Spirit Attack had her firing one giant one. Additionally, Ravio could attach bombs to his Light Arrows in one of his Special Attacks.
Trivia[edit]
- Bomb Arrows were initially considered for inclusion in A Link to the Past, where they would be used the same way as in Link's Awakening. The idea was scrapped when Shigeru Miyamoto requested that Link always have his sword equipped, which prevented the idea of combining different items. The idea was later implemented into Link's Awakening.
