Mouser is one of the boss characters from Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros. 2. He is a sunglasses-wearing mouse who serves Wart and specializes in bombs.

Background

According to the instruction manual for Super Mario Bros. 2, Mouser was a proud being who believed himself to be more than just a mouse. He wielded bombs and was said to use those bombs to destroy good dreams in favor of bad dreams.

Mouser was encountered as a boss in Super Mario Bros. 2 twice, in World 1-3 and World 3-3 . he attacked by hurling bombs at players, who would need to catch these bombs and throw them back at Mouser to injure him. After being blasted repeatedly with his own bombs (three times in the first battle and five in the second), Mouser would be defeated.

There was also a third battle with a white-furred Mouser in World 5-3 of Doki Doki Panic. However, that battle was left out of Super Mario Bros. 2 and replaced with Clawgrip. Additionally, the Super Mario Advance remake moved Mouser's second battle to World 6-3.

Mouser also appeared as the boss of 1-3 in BS Super Mario USA. In this appearance, he gained new magical abilities, as he could turn other enemies into bombs and summoned giant bombs for the battle.

• In the Super Smash Bros. series, he has been represented as a sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and as a Novice Primary Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When fought in Spirit battles, Mouser's Spirit would possess Pikachu in a battle that was filled with Bob-ombs.

In Other Media

• In The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, Mouser was portrayed as King Koopa's second-in-command instead of a minion of Wart. *Mouser also made an appearance in the Nintendo Comics System issue "A Mouser in the Houser", which revealed he was once the king of a species of mice who looked just like him, until he was corrupted by Bowser.

Trivia

• His Japanese name is Don Churuge. The "Don" is simply a title referring to him being a leader, while "Churuge" is a play on "chuu", which is Japanese onomatopoeia for a mouse's squeaking sound.
• A branch of creatures, known as Lil' Mousers and later just called Mousers were featured in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Paper Mario and several other games. They're much smaller than the actual Mouser and are particularly known for being thieves.
• Unused data in Super Mario Advance shows a small mouse creature that would be loaded up in boss levels. It is believed that mouse was going to be Mouser's original form, as several of the other boss fights had new introductions in which the bosses transformed from smaller creatures.
• Mouser is also briefly referred to in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story; after Fawful takes over Bowser's Castle and brainwashes his minions, one such minion tries to remember the previous owner of the castle, with one of his guesses being "Mouser's Castle".
