Blaziken is a feathered fighting Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the third and final form of the starter Pokémon Torchic.
Information
Blaziken evolves from Combusken at Level 36. It is known for its incredibly strong legs, which make it capable of leaping a 30-story building with a single bound. Blaziken is also skilled at flaming punches, which usually leave their enemies scorched and blackened. Its flaming punches are caused by their wrists being capable of spouting flames, and they usually use these moves to attack foes courageously. The flames burn more intensely depending on the foe's strength. Blaziken practice martial arts which use both punches and kicks, making it somewhat well-rounded. Its old feathers burn off every few years, with new supple ones growing in their place.
Appearances
Mainstream Games
Blaziken has not been found in the wild and so far can only be obtained by evolving a Combusken.
Other Games
Blaziken could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire as well as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams. In Pokémon Channel, Blaziken appeared outside the Ruins of Truth on snowy mornings. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 20, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at East Road. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Blaziken could be recruited at the ninth through fourteenth floors of Dark Crater Pit. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it appeared at Altru Building. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it was found at Faldera Island and the Fire Temple. Blaziken also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Lava Zone, where it acted as the Zone Keeper for it and the Cavern Zone.
Other Appearances
Video Games
- In the Super Smash Bros. series, Blaziken makes a cameo appearance at the Kalos Pokémon League stage seen in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which consists of it appearing in the background of the stage's Blazing Chamber form. It has also been represented by a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, two trophies (one being for Mega Blaziken) in the Wii U game and as an Advanced-rank Primary Spirit (which strengthened foot attack power) in Ultimate. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Blaziken's Spirit would possess Captain Falcon in a battle where it would move at uncontrollable speed and have increased power in its kicks and knee strikes.
Other Media
- In the Pokémon anime, Blaziken was first shown near the end of the Johto series as a Pokémon belonging to Harrison, one of the competitors in the Silver Conference. It was able to defeat Ash for Harrison when it beat Ash's Charizard in an arduous battle but was too wounded to take part in the following battles. This Blaziken's anime appearance preceded the release of the third generation games in Japan, so that it acted as a sneak preview (although this is not so in America where the episodes wound up airing months after Ruby and Sapphire's American release). Near the end of the Battle Frontier series, May's Combusken evolved into a Blaziken while fighting off Team Rocket and remained a main part of May's team, reappearing with her in several Sinnoh episodes.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Sapphire's Combusken evolved into a Blaziken while she was training with Winona during the Ruby/Sapphire arc and continued training despite losing. It has remained on Sapphire's team as one of her main Pokémon.
Trivia
- Its name is a combination of "blazing" (which refers to its association with fire but could more specifically describes its wrists) and "chicken" (due to it being a bird and being somewhat fowl-like, though less so than Combusken).
- A trophy of Blaziken appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
