The Kargaroc (also called Kagarok by most Twilight Princess-related sources) is a bird-like enemy that has appeared in several The Legend of Zelda games.

Information

Kargaocs are large birds of prey which usually perch atop tall, jagged rocks. They are hostile and will attack anyone who gets near, including seagulls. Kargarocs that serve forces of darkness usually operate as carriers, carrying enemies such as Bokoblins through the air and dropping them into battle with enemies. This suggests that their talons have great strength. Kargarocs initially were shown as being covered with rich plumage, but in their latter appearance they were shown as being fleshier creatures.

Appearances

In The Wind Waker, Kargarocs appear throughout the Great Sea and are fairly common enemies. They most commonly appear at Dragon Roost Island. This bird's spoil (which can be obtained primarily with a grappling hook) is the Golden Feather item, which are primarily prized by Rito women. In Twilight Princess, normal Kargarocs were most commonly found flying through Hyrule Field. There was also a version appearing in the twilight that was called the Shadow Kargaroc. Although it behaved the same, it looked vastly different and had what appeared to be a set of musical horns in place of its head. One giant version known as the Twilit Carrier Kargoroc acted as a miniboss and could be ridden by Link and Midna after the Bulblin riding it had been defeated.

• In Nintendo Land, they appeared as enemies within The Legend of Zelda: Battle Quest, and a Kargoroc could also be won as a prize for the Plaza.
• In Cadence of Hyrule, Karagarocs appear as semi-common enemies. They look somewhat different then in other games, and when a player character is in its vicinity, it will approach them with quick strides.

Trivia

• The "roc" in its name refers to a mythological bird known as the Roc. The first part of its name could also be a play on "cargo" in reference to its usual task of carrying others.
• It is likely that they are "subjects" of the Helmaroc King, who appears to possibly be a giant Kargaroc, although this is not confirmed within The Wind Waker.
