Ward is a playable unit in Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi. He is a member of a band of mercenaries.

Background[edit]

As a boy, Ward grew up in the Western Isles with his childhood friend, Lott. Whereas Lott was always the more careful and thoughtful of the two, Ward was known for his tenacity and full on approach to danger. Both of them had sisters looking out for them, which gave them a common ground. During their childhood, they happened upon an abandoned mine. Their versions of the story differ, but according to Ward, it was a mine full of monstrous, poisonous snake creatures that he single-handedly defeated. In actuality they were normal snakes and not monstrous at all.

After both had reached adulthood, they became mercenaries together and eventually joined a band of mercenaries led by Dieck. It was a small group and the only other member was Thany. Prior to the outbreak of the war with Bern, Dieck was hired by Lord Eliwood to provide support for his son, Roy who was joining the Lycia Alliance. Ward and his others found Roy already engaged in a battle with Lord Rude, prompting them to go ahead and provide their aid. He continued to support Roy in the rest of the war.

Following the war, Dieck broke up the mercenary band. Ward headed to his home on the Western Isles and he worked hard to cultivate the wilderness into what would become the greatest city on the Western Isles.

Support Conversation Summaries[edit]

Ward is capable of having support conversations with five other characters.

  • Dieck- Dieck chastises Ward for being reckless in battle and urges him to not go all out. Later Ward brags about taking three enemies in one swing and forgot what Dieck told him. Although Dieck tries to remind him, Ward seems oblivious. In the final conversation, Ward apologizes and confesses he almost go himself killed. Dieck praises him for realizing that and reminds him that he can be powerful without rushing into battle.
  • Lott- In their first conversation, Ward talks about rushing into battle, but Lott tries to calm him down. Ward says he's not a little kid anymore and Lott mutters under his breath that he hopes that's the case. In the second conversation, Ward finds out that Lott's mother had passed away while he was trying to earn money. Ward tells him he should head back to take care of his sister, but Lott said that was in the middle of a job and couldn't. In the final conversation, Ward tells Lott that he can't die because he has a little sister depending on him. Lott says the same to Ward about Mary and the two agree that they'll both go back to their hometown.
  • Thany- The two get in a fight about how it's annoying to have to fight around the other. Ward gets angry and tries to attack Thany, but she just flies off. In their second conversation, Ward saves Thany from a enemy archer and calls her an idiot for relaxing. Thany dismisses his help and says she could've handled it, prompting Ward to wish her luck and leave. As he leaves, she feels bad for not thanking him properly. In the final conversation the two patch things up and Thany realizes Ward cares about her well-being, although he doesn't say it outright.
  • Allen- After introducing one another, Ward challenges Allen to a fight, which he loses. In their second conversation, they have another duel and Ward manages to win, but notes that Allen is very strong. In their final conversation they duel yet again and afterwards conclude that they can't lose against the enemy if both of them are fighting.
  • Echidna- The two meet and Echidna asks if Ward is from the Western Isles. When Ward says he is, Echidna asks if he would be interested in helping to build a village for those who lost their homes to war. Ward is less than interested and backs out, but Echidna persists. In the next conversation, Echidna tries to talk Ward out of being a mercenary since he's weak anyways. Ward warns her not to get him pissed and relates an exaggerated story of how he killed monsters, but Echidna doesn't buy it. In their final conversation, Ward says he has decided to go to his hometown and he might drop by on Echidna. Hearing this, Echidna insists that he has to go back to his older sister first and that it's a priority.
