Norion is a planet operated by the Galactic Federation. It is introduced in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption when it is nearly hit by a Leviathan.

History[edit]

The planet Norion was an barren orb incapable of life. It was located on the outskirts of Federation space however. For this reason a massive terraforming project was carried out under Aurora Unit 486. As a result it became a hardy forested world that was well-equipped for supporting human life. As a result, the Galactic Federation set up a massive naval base to serve as the first line of defense against enemies outside of GF Space.

The base boasted three powerful generators that fed energy into a massive cannon capable of taking out enemy ships or large space debris. It was also staffed with Federation Marines. It was also one of the first locations to have the Federation PEDs trained, giving it an extra combat edge in dealing with attacks.

The base was attacked during the Phazon crisis during a simultaneous attack on the G.F.S. Olympus in orbit. In that time the Space Pirates managed to shut down the three generators in time for a Leviathan to arrive to impact the planet. Forced to contend with the ground Pirate troops, the Marines and four bounty hunters - Samus Aran, Ghor, Rundas, and Gandrayda were forced to re-activate the three generators. Together they were able to wipe out the Space Pirates and reactivate the generators. Although initially thwarted by Dark Samus, Samus Aran used her remaining strength to shoot the Leviathan out of the sky.

Although the planet was saved from corruption, plenty of Phazon found its way on the planet. For this reason, parts of the base had to be locked off until repairs could be made - although that didn't stop Samus Aran from returning to access Energy Cells and other objects.

Geography[edit]

Aside from the Federation Base, the planet is predominantly forested. Any wildlife on the planet would require foreign introduction due to the planet's origins.
