Fox McCloud is the leader of Star Fox, an elite mercenary team of four Arwing pilots. Making his original debut in Star Fox, Fox is the son of the team's original founder James McCloud. After his father was captured by Andross, Fox took over the team with his father's friend Peppy Hare and his own friends Falco Lombardi and Slippy Toad. Under the orders of General Pepper, they fought off Wolf O'Donnell, team Star Wolf, and Andross, thus restoring peace to the Cornerian system.

Since then Fox saved the planet Sauria, where he met up with Krystal and defeated Andross for the final time. Even with their old nemesis gone, Star Fox has fought off invasions from both the Anglar and Aparoids. Fox has appeared in every game in the Super Smash Bros. series as one of the default playable characters.
