James Hamilton

James Hamilton was a distant ancestor and counterpart to Eric Hamilton/Vorpal from The Ennead. He was a misogynistic sailor who respected and looked up to his captain. At one point an engagement was arranged between he and Elizabeth, but she ultimately rejected him, which angered him. Later on, the captain died in a struggle with Kyuri, whom he had tried to kill. Elizabeth defended Kyuri due to it being an act of self-defense, but James was enraged and wanted to kill the kappa. He ambushed Elizabeth to force her off the boat so that they could lynch Kyuri, but Baku came to her aid. Hamilton remained under control until he noticed the Yokishima Blade and was captivated by it. Baky took this opportunity to knock him out, although Hamilton saw that Baku was a tanuki in the process.

That was the last time he was seen in the story due to it being unfinished, but he was set to become one of the main powers of the plot when he winds up grabbing the Vorpal Sword and falling prey to its spell. He clashes with Masamune (as well as Gregor wielding Murasame) several times and thinks himself victorious following the defeat of Masamune and Murasame. However, he is ultimately stabbed in the back and killed.
