The 1-Up Mushroom (or Life Shroom in RPGs) is an extra life or life-restoring item found in the Mario games.
Information[edit]
The 1-Up Mushroom originally appears in the various platformer games as a 1-Up, and it is usually shown as a green mushroom with white spots. They are naturally rare and due to this nature are sometimes used in traps. In the Gameboy games (such as Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, Donkey Kong GB and Virtual Boy Wario Land), hearts are used as 1-Ups instead.
They also play a role in the RPG games. In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and its sequels, where it will revive a fallen character with half of their HP. An improved version called the 1-Up Super revives someone with full HP. A different version of the item called the Life Shroom appears in Paper Mario in its sequels, where it is either pink with white spots or white with red hearts for spots. It will revive an ally when they all with 10 HP (or 5 HP in Super Paper Mario).
The traditional 1-Up Mushroom appears in Super Mario Galaxy, but a different version of the Life Shroom also appears. In this game, Life Shrooms are red mushrooms with single stars upon them. They will temporarily increase Mario's health from three to six, with its effects wearing off when Mario is hurt three times in a row.
