Type | Bat/Demon |
Debut | Zelda II: The Adventure of Link |
The Ache and the Acheman were minor bat-like enemies that appeared in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link in place of the Keese and Vire.
Information[edit]
Aches are bats that primarily dwell in caves. They are slightly stronger than Keese (taking two hits to kill at first) and tend not to come in as large of groups. Their hiding place tends to be on ceiling where they wait until intruders come by and then they attack. Aches also served as spies for Ganon, hiding in some villages disguised as random villagers. Whenever Link would talk to them, they would reveal their true forms to attack him.
A variation of Aches, called Acheman, are demons that describe themselves as red Aches. The Acheman will swoop down like a normal Ache, but instead of diving at the enemy, it transforms into its true form as it nears the ground and spits out a fireball. It is generally stronger than the normal Aches.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- An Ache was shown in an episode of the Zelda cartoon, where Ganon transformed a bird into one to spy on Hyrule for him. It is small enough to fit in the palm of his hand and is capable of speech.
Trivia[edit]
- Aches are the second types of bats to be shown in the Zelda series, after Keese. The only other variety has been the more generic Bad Bats that appeared with the Keese in Majora's Mask.
- The Acheman has some similarities to the Vire from The Legend of Zelda, with the main difference being that the Acheman's transformation is voluntary. The Vire character from the Oracles games seems to share abilities with both species.
