Agitha is a collector of insects who originally appears as a non-playable character in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Background

Agitha was an eccentric young girl who lived in Hyrule Castle Town within a place that she called Agitha's Castle. She was obsessed with insects and often spoke wistfully of them. Agitha considered herself as the princess of the insect kingdom and invited all 24 of the kingdom's golden bugs to her castle for a ball. Link could help her by gathering the bugs and bringing them to her. This included gendered pairs of each species, as Agitha did not want any of the insects to be alone. She also sometimes appeared in Hyrule Field, seeking the bugs in the flowers. If Link met her in wolf form, she would greet him warmly and think that he was just a puppy.

Once Link started to give her Golden Bugs from throughout Hyrule, Agitha gave him a Big Wallet and then paid him in Rupees. Agitha came to consider Link a worthy knight when he brought he golden bugs of both genders, and she rewarded him with a Giant Wallet. Agitha also gave Link a declaration of honorable citizenship in her insect kingdom.

Other Appearances

• In the Super Smash Bros. series, Agitha has been represented by a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and a Novice-rank Support Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Her Spirit's Support effect was for the player fighter to start a battle equipped with Lip's Stick. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Agitha's Spirit would possess Princess Peach and fight alongside Bayonetta (representing Midna).

Hyrule Warriors

Agitha appears in Hyrule Warriors as an unlockable playable character. In this game, she attacks with an umbrella as her weapon and is also aided by magical versions of the insects that she collects. She makes a non-playable appearance in the game's Legend Mode, but she is unlocked as a playable character through Adventure Mode.

Storyline

In the storyline of Legend Mode, Agitha initially appeared in the scenario "Land of Twilight", where was endangered by the attack of the invading dark forces. Lana came to her aid, and in turn she volunteered the use of her Goddess Butterly to guide them through the twilight that had fallen over Hyrule Field, so that Lana could locate the Gate of Souls that she was seeking. However, Midna's forces soon intervened and stole the Goddess Butterfly, as she intended to use it to locate Cia. Lana assured Midna that she would retrieve it and sent Agitha back to Kakariko Village to be safe. Eventually, Agitha would venture out due to her concern for her butterfly, regardless of the danger, but ultimately Lana was able to defeat Midna. Agitha regained her Goddess Butterfly afterwards, and Midna also ended up joining their ranks in the fight against Cia.

Agitha then acted as a supporting ally in the attack on the Palace of Twilight in "The Shadow King", performing a few duties such as letting her Goddess Butterfly guide Lana and Midna to the fairy fountain. Agitha apparently returned to the present afterwards to help in the final campaigns against Cia. She only appeared in the chapter "The Sealed Sword" on replays in which the player is controlling Midna; in that instance, Agitha takes Midna's place as the one who activates the Statue of Twilight to open the doors to the Temple of the Sealed Sword. After Cia's downfall in "Shining Beacon", Agitha returned to her own time through the time portal along with Midna. She and Midna were later summoned again one last time when Lana opened the portals to bring in reinforcements in "Enduring Resolve". After the final battle in "Liberation of the Triforce", Agitha and the others faded away, presumably returning to their own time periods again.

In the extra scenarios, Agitha also appeared as an enemy in one of the scenarios of Cia's Tale, "The Usurper King", which is set before her appearance in the main storyline. In it, Agitha somehow wandered into the Palace of Twilight by chance while Cia was trying to battle Zant's forces, and she came across the palace's key. Cia's forces then defeated her in order to claim the key.

Trivia

• Her name originates from "ageha", the Japanese name for the swallowtail butterfly.
• According to supplementary materials, she is around 10 years old.
• Agitha initially confuses Link with a bug, calling him a grasshopper (similar to Romani) or a stag beetle if he is wearing the Zora Armor.
• She also sends a letter in which she tells Link about a dream in which butterflies carry her away.
• In Hyrule Warriors, she claims to have learned how to pick locks from termites.
