Anthony Higgs is an soldier in the Galactic Federation who was introduced as a supporting character in Metroid: Other M.
Background[edit]
Anthony Higgs began serving in the Federation around the same time as Samus Aran, and both were under the command of General Adam Malkovich. He was known for being hovial and friendly as well as being eager for combat. He usually used several guns in combat, his most powerful being a large plasma cannon that took a long time to charge. He befriended Samus when they served together and called her by the nickname of "Princess", which Samus allowed because of the respect he showed her. When Samus eventually resigned to become a solo bounty hunter, Higgs did not seem to hold it against her.
Some years later, they were reunited in Metroid: Other M when Higgs was part of Adam's Platoon Seven duringa mission on the mysterious Bottle Ship. When Samus crossed paths with the group, Higgs was the only one to welcome her and convinced his comrades to lower their arms around her. Adam initially assigned Higgs to explore Sector 3, but he was eventually called to Sector 1 to investigate the Exam Center. There he made smalltalk with Samus, reminiscing about the area's resemblance to the Federation training grounds. However, they were soon afterwards attacked by a group of enemies including a monsterous, lizard-like mystery creature. Samus was pinned by the mystery creature until Higgs saved her by blasting it with a shot from his plasma cannon, which made it retreat.
He returned to Sector 3, and Samus found him just in time when he was struggling against a Rhedogian that was threatening to drop him into lava. Samus was able to save him, and they took down the monster together. Anthony then casually asked Samus about Adam, causing her to experience a traumatic flashback, and he then apologized for apparently touching a nerve. They then endeavored to reach the Geothermal Power Plant to reactivate the sector's power. When they both arrived at the area, Samus was surprised to find Anthony pointing a gun towards her and raised her own cannon towards him. However, he as actually aiming past Samus at Ridley, whom had evolved from the mystery creature earlier. Ridley proceeded to viciously attack Samus, but Anthony then saved her by shooting at Ridley and taunting him. This caused Ridley to drop Samus and attack Higgs, knocking him towards the lava below.
Anthony was believed dead at this point, but he actually survived by using an ice gun on a lava monster, then using the iced platform to reach safety. He then decided to work under the radar, as MB had reprogrammed the Bottle Ship to a collision course towards Federation headquarters. Higgs was able to make his way to the engine room and shut it down just in the nick of time, saving the lives of Samus and everyone else aboard both the Bottle Ship and Federation headquarters. Adam was reunited with Samus and the Federation patrol after MB had been immobilized. He talked down the Federation colonel by saying that he had authority from the Federation's chairman to insure the safety of all the survivors and that they would have missed each other if he had not hit the Bottle Ship's emergency brakes. Being the last survivor of the seventh platoon, he then brought Samus with him in escorting the lone survivor of the ship, Madeline Bergman, to the Federation headquarters. He recalled how he had survived and loudly observed how great it was that something good could come from something bad, but then being careful not to awaken the sleeping Bergman. He still had trouble processing everything that had happened during that "crazy mission".
Afterwards, he walked in on Samus giving a thumbs ups in honor of Adam's memory and played around with her by giving a thumbs down. As they briefly palled around with each other, Samus noted that he looked as if he wanted to say something and began to associate him with Adam.
