Bastiodon is a large and armored yet docile fossil Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It is the evolved form of Shieldon.

Information[edit]

Bastiodon evolves from Shieldon at Level 30. They have large shieldlike faces which repel any frontal attack. Various Bastiodon have been known to line up together in order to form a protective wall that no foe could break through. They do so in order to protect their young, as Bastiodon are actually very docile species that are known to feed on grass and berries.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

Bastiodon has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving a Shieldon.

Other Games[edit]

It could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Chroma Highlands and Chroma Ruins. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Oblivia Ruins and the Fire Temple. In Pokémon Rumble, it was found at Fiery Furnace. Bastiodon also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Cavern Zone.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Byron's Bastiodon appeared in several episodes of the SInnoh series as his main Pokémon. He was first seen using it in a fight against his son Roark's Rampardos, and he later used as his last Pokémon during his gym battle with Ash, where it beat his Chimchar but ultimately lost to Ash's Gliscor.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Diamond's Shieldon (which Byron had given to him) evolved into a Bastiodon while fighting at Team Galactic's Veilstone building. It has continued to serve as one of Diamond's main Pokémon on his team.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "bastion" (which is an outward-facing part of a fortification, similar to Bastiodon's defensive face) and "don" (which is a suffix used commonly for dinosaur names).
