Brom is a playable unit in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and its sequel, Radiant Dawn.
Background[edit]
Brom was originally a farmer working in Ohma, located in the countryside of Crimea. He was married and had eight children altogether, five sons and three daughters, most of whom were hefty like him. His parents also lived either with them or nearby. When war broke out suddenly between Crimea and Daein, Brom had heard of Daein's atrocities and joined the local militia in hopes of helping his country and protecting his family as well as his fields. Not having much, his parents gave him a bag of stones gathered from their farm as a parting gift, and Brom while he was away Brom often opened the bag and talked to the stones as if they were his family members. The militia was very makeshift, and the soldiers (Brom included) received little to no training. Brom and a fellow Crimean militia member, Nephenee, were later wounded. Sephiran gave them shelter and healed them, but the three were then caught by Daein soldiers and imprisoned in Canteus Castle.
Brom remained at Canteus, where he shared a cell with Kieran, until Ike freed him in "Chapter 10: Prisoner Release". After Ike talked to him, Brom became a partner unit. After they all escaped from Canteus Castle, Brom and Nephenee met with Princess Elincia, whose existence was unknown to Crimea's public. Brom believed her when she said she wanted to defeat Daein and restore Crimea to the way it used to be, so he dedicated himself to serving her in battle and so began fighting alongside the Greil Mercenaries, which later became the Crimean Liberation Army. Brom became a more experienced fighter throughout the war and came to enjoy the Crimean Liberation Army much more than the militia. He also befriended Zihark and insisted that Zihark marry one of his daughters. Never catching on to Zihark's disinterest, Brom promised his second daughter to him. Following the final battle, he remarked how tough Ashnard had seemed and congratulated Ike for defeating him. Brom then returned home to his family.
Three years later, Brom's second daughter had been married, so Brom instead promised Zihark to his youngest daughter, Meg. Brom himself continued living and working peacefully at Ohma until Nephenee came to him in "Chapter 1: Winds of Rebellion" of "Part 1: Silver-Haired Maiden". She called him to suit up in order to quell a rebellion being stirred against Elincia by Lord Ludveck. Afterwards, they traveled to Melior in order to warn Elincia about the rebellion. Brom and Nephenee then aided Crimean forces in "Chapter 2: Tides of Intrigue" and "Endgame: Elincia's Gambit".
Afterwards, Brom left to help Ike in fighting alongside the Laguz Alliance Army in "Part 3: Intersecting Vows", arriving at the Laguz Alliance camp in "Chapter 2: Whirlpools". He was able to recruit Zihark if the two had a Support rank transferred from Path of Radiance, although he could not recruit Meg.
After the wars ended, Brom returned to his family in Ohma and farmed for the remainder of his peaceful life, never again wielding a weapon in battle. His daughter Meg was also able to marry (but not to Zihark) and have a normal family.
Support Conversation Summaries[edit]
In Path of Radiance, Brom is capable of having Support conversations with three other characters.
- Boyd- In the first conversation, Boyd and Brom begin talking with each other and Boyd teases Brom about his weight. This makes Brom feel bad, but Boyd decides to help train Brom and whip him into shape. In the second conversation, Brom is getting tired from the training but keeps going because of the natural patience he has as a farmer. He begins to reminisce about his life on the farm. Boyd then realizes how different farmers are from mercenaries, because farmers bring life into the world while mercenaries kill. However, Brom reminds Boyd that he fights for what's right and to protect people. Boyd agrees, saying he likes his job and sees the Greil Mercenaries as his family, then rushes Brom to continue the training. In the final conversation, Boyd comments Brom on his performance in the training exercise and tells him he might be able to become a royal guard after the war with the improvements he made, but Brom insists on returning to his humble farm life. Boyd then asks Brom what the common farmers think of mercenaries and mentions the bad reputation mercenaries always receive. Brom simply tells Boyd that people always judge and sometimes are wrong, but Brom likes and respects Boyd as well as the rest of the Greil Mercenaries. Boyd then rushes Brom back into the training.
- Nephenee- In the first conversation, Brom and Nephenee reminisce about farm life and talk about their families. Brom hopes his children are taking care of their mother like they should, and Nephenee assures him that they are. In the next conversation, they share their early experiences in the militia and how ill-prepared they were for battle while they search for the barracks. Brom suggests Nephenee ask someone where their barracks are, but she tells Brom to do it instead because she is too embarrassed by her country accent. In the third conversation, Brom notes that Nephenee doesn't talk to many people because she is afraid of people making fun of her heavy accent. However, he tells her to pretend she is in her home village and convinces her to smile, then he tells her that the young men in the army won't be able to take their eyes for her with a smile like that.
- Zihark- In the first conversation, Zihark helps Brom fix his shoulder strap, and Brom learns about the resourcefulness of mercenaries. Brom mentions his number of children, and Zihark says he'd expect many children from Brom because he is a big man with a big heart, the perfect father. In the second conversation, Brom had treated Zihark to a meal, but Zihark insists on paying his half since he didn't have much money on him at the time. Brom then asks Zihark is he is popular among the ladies and offers to set him up with his oldest daughter, but Zihark is reluctant. In the third conversation, Brom continues trying to convince Zihark to marry his daughters and doesn't hide their manliness. Zihark attempts to explain that he was still trying to get over his previous relationship, but then he makes the mistake of saying that the idea of him joining Brom's family is somewhat appealing, so Brom wouldn't feel bad, but then Brom continues trying to advertise his daughters.
In Radiant Dawn, Brom has an automatic Bond Support with Meg.
