Bryyo is a planet rich in Fuel Gel. It is introduced in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption after being hit by a Leviathan.

History[edit]

The planet Bryyo is one with a long history that ultimately left the planet desolate. The inhabitants are a race called the Reptilicus and for years lived a life as Primals with deep mystical ways. In time they reached an age of science and under the guidance of Bryyus the First, they first reached the stars. The Age of Science began then. Those who followed these ways became known as the Lords of Science.

From this rose an age of enlightenment as the Reptilicus traveled the stars under the banner of peace. They met with the Chozo, Luminoth, and the Ylla and exchanged information with them. The people of Bryyo praised the Lords of Science, but those who followed the Primal ways grumbled that the old ways were being abandoned.

Ultimately it broke out into conflict when the Lords of Science did not heed the Chozo's advice of balancing the old ways and new ways. The Primals began engaging in conflict with the Lords of Science and the Age of Schism began. The Lords of Science retaliated with building powerful, destructive weapons while the Primals relied on ancient dark magics. Intervention from their interstellar friends did little to stop the conflict.

The result left the planet covered in ash and pollution. Soon only the equator of the planet was habitable. The war continued even there as well. The Lords of Science soon were unable to battle the Primals once they lost the fuel for their war engines. Those that survived went into hiding as the Primals took control of the planet. The survivors, realizing how great the destruction was, devised a machine to save what little of the planet survived.

Although they successfully saved the planet, the Primals saw the machine's launch and used it to find the Lords of Science. In time they were all wiped out and the Primals took dominance. Over time the Primals turned on one another, lost their ability at magic, and became like savage beasts.

An unknown time after this, the planet was discovered by the Galactic Federation. The planet seemed to lack any intelligent creatures, since the Reptilicus were now little more than savage beasts. The planet was rich in Fuel Gel which was very potent at sustaining the vessels used by the Federation. A base was established on the planet and became a valuable fuel source.

For this reason, it was marked by the Space Pirates to be a target for the Phazon-rich Leviathan. The meteor crashed into the planet and soon the lifeforms of Bryyo were all poisoned with Phazon. The bounty hunter Rundas was dispatched, but he became Corrupted and worked to spread the Phazon. Eventually Samus Aran arrived. She learned of Bryyo's history and was able to neutralize the Leviathan, which was guarded by a corrupted Mogenar constructed by the last Lord of Science.

The fate of Bryyo is unknown after this, but the Federation Base was likely rebuilt again.

Geography[edit]

The planet's climate has been permanently altered by the long Reptilican conflict so that the planet is covered 48% with the sun at all times, leaving that side scorched. The other 48% is left without sunlight and is frozen and uninhabitable. Only 4% remains that can be inhabited around the equator. It is here that lush jungles exist populated by what remains of the planet's indigenous bioforms.
