Dugtrio is the evolved form of Diglett from the first generation Pokémon games. It is actually three Diglett triplets working together.
Information[edit]
A Dugtrio evolves from a normal Diglett at Level 26. Dugtrio are Diglett triplets that originally split from the same body. They all think alike, which causes them to cooperative and work perfectly together as a team. They bob their heads separately to loosen the soil nearby and make it easier for them to burrow. They can dig through even the hardest ground and burrow up to sixty miles below sea level, which sometimes causes actual earthquakes.
As with its pre-evolved form, no one quite knows what a Dugtrio is like underground. They usually attack by digging underground and surprising its foe with an attack from an unexpected direction.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, LeafGreen, Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions, Dugtrio could be found rarely within Diglett's Cave. In Yellow, the player could get one in a trade with a trainer on Route 11 in exchange for a Lickitung.
They were also uncommonly found on Route 228 in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Pinball, Dugtrio could be obtained only through evolution. One also appeared at the end of a Diglett-themed bonus stage on the Red Table as the final target to hit. In Pokémon Snap, Dugtrio appeared within the Tunnel area. Amongst the Pokémon line of e-Reader cards, Dugtrio appeared only in the "Sweet Scent" short where it and Diglett were summoned by Vileplume's Sweet Scent in one version and kept it company. A Shadow Dugtrio could be snagged from Cipher Peon Kolax on Citadark Island in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. After being purified, this Dugtrio coould be transferred to any of the third generation color versions.
Dugtrio appeared in Pokémon Channel, where it showed up at the Back Yard on clear and cloudy nights. In Pokémon Trozei!, Dugtrio could be found at Endless Levels 8 and 23, Forever Level 57 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams it could only be obtained through evolution while in Explorers of Darkness and Time it appeared on the first nine floors of Shimmer Desert. A non-playable Dugtrio also appears in the games who sends the player to search for his son Diglett as the third mission in the first two games, and then in the second two games he updated the Outlaw Notice and Job Bulletin Boards with rotating boards.
In Pokémon Ranger, Dugtrio could be found at Krokka Tunnel. They also appeared at Rocky Cavern in Pokémon Rumble. In PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure, a Dugtrio appeared at the Cavern Zone.
Other Appearances[edit]
Video Games[edit]
- In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Dugtrio appears in the background of the Pokémon Stadium 2 stage when it is in Ground terrain, and it reappears with the stage in Super Smash Bros.f for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Dugtrio has also appeared as a trophy in Brawl and a Novice-rank Support Spirit (which boosts electric resistance) in Ultimate. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Dugtrio's Spirit would possess three Kirby duplicates in a battle which was subject to periodic earthquakes.
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Dugtrio appeared in an episode of the first series working alongside Diglett to plant trees. They have also made several other appearances throughout the series, such as one belonging to an opponent of Ash's at the Hoenn League, which was able to defeat Ash's Pikachu but lost to his Glalie.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Giovanni has a Dugtrio in his team but has only used it once briefly during his fight with Red.
Trivia[edit]
- Dugtrio's name is a combination of "dug" (the past tense used for juxtaposition against Diglett's "dig") and "trio", which of course refers to the number of Diglett.
- One of the Pokémon Signs in Pokémon Snap (which Dugtrio already physically appears in) is a Dugtrio-shaped mountain that is visible in the Valley stage.
