Flygon is a sand-based antlion-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the third and final form in Trapinch's evolutionary line.

Information[edit]

Vibrava evolves into Flygon at Level 45. Their wings are capable of whipping up sandstorms, so Flygon are always enveloped in sandstorms while flying. The flapping of its wings also sounds like a woman singing, and because this musical noise is the only thing others can hear during the sandstorm, people have nicknamed Flygon the "elemental spirit of the desert" or "The Desert Spirit". Flygon will also flap up a cloud of sand to protect itself from enemies. Its red covers shield its eyes from sand.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

Flygon has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving a Vibrava.

Other Games[edit]

Flygon could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Endless Level 5, Forever Level 54, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at the Jungle Relic during a mission. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, it could be recruited at Mystifying Forest, Mystery Jungle and Mt. Mistral. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it appeared at Haruba Desert. Flygon also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Granite Zone where it guarded the gate.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Flygon appeared as an Advanced-rank Primary Spirit. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Flygon's Spirit would possess a green Ridley in a battle that was subject to frequent earthquakes.

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Flygon made several appearances during the Hoenn and Battle Frontier series as one of Drew's Pokémon. He caught it specifically for the Hoenn Grand Festival and used it several time afterwards. Other Flygon have made mostly minor appearances in other episodes and movies.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Norman was shown to own a Flygon and mostly rode it as transportation. He passed the Flygon on to Wally once he completed his training.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name seems to be a rearranging of "dragonfly".
  • Flygon is based on the fully mature version of the antlion, while Trapinch and Vibrava correspond to earlier parts of its life cycle.
