Forretress is an armor shelled Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It is the evolved form of Pineco.
Information[edit]
Forretress evolves from Pineco at Level 31. Its entire body is shielded and concealed by a hardened steel shell. Forretress's appearance under the shell is a mystery except for its peering eyes which are always visible. They open their shell when catching prey, but they do so quickly enough that the shell's interior cannot be seen. They are usually found hanging onto fat tree trunks and remain immovably rooted to their trees. Forretress usually scatter pieces of their hard shells to drive enemies away.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
Forretress have not been found in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving a Pineco.
Other Games[edit]
A Shadow Forretress could be snagged from Cipher Peon Vana at the Shadow Pokémon Laboratory in Pokémon Colosseum, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Endless Level 59, Endless Level 69, Forever Level 9 and Mr. Who's Den. It could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness, Forretress could be recruited at Sky Stairway. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it could be found at Vien Forest. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, they were found at Sophian Road, Canal Ruins, Forest Temple and Light Temple.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Brock's Pineco evolved into a Forretress while protecting Pokémon at a hot spring from Team Rocket late into the Johto series. It became nicer to Brock in its new form and became the longest-running Pokémon on his team. Forretress was the only Pokémon that he brought with him to Hoenn, and it was only before going to Sinnoh that he chose to leave Forretress back at Pewter City Gym. Other Forretress have sometimes made minor appearances.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Forretress appeared during the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc, where Red was shown battling two of them as part of his gym leader aptitude test, and Janine was later shown to have one of her one which she exploited the Spikes ability of. During the FireRed/LeafGreen arc, Carr was shown to have several Forretress which he used to detonate various areas in the manner of bombs due to their Self Destruct and Explosion moves.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a play on "fortress" (due to its defense), possibly combined with "forest" or "turret" (as parts of its armor resemble turrets).
