Arceus is a legendary Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It is an event Pokémon that is treated like the god of the Pokémon universe and is said to have created it. Various myths within Sinnoh connect it to other legendary Pokémon such as Dialga, Palkia and Giratina, and it can even produce eggs of those legendary Pokémon in a HeartGold/SoulSilver event. Arceus resembles some type of celestial deer. It is unique in that it starts off as a Normal-type, but its type can be changed to any type by equipping it with one of fifteen special plates.

Within the main color versions, Arceus was found only in the Hall of Origin in Pokémon: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum Versions, and it could only be reached by using the event item Azure Flute. However, the Azure Flute was never distributed, and instead Arceus was distributed directly through Wi-Fi during one time period per mission.
