Background[edit]
Great Tiger was a mysterious magician hailing from India. It is known that his father was a well-known magician in India, which is likely where Great Tiger got his powers from. In the Wii game, Great Tiger was shown to live in an Indian palace of some sort. He taunts his enemies by likening them to mere pussycats and calling himself a tiger. In addition, he seems to carry around (and possibly wear) a tiger skin. In most instances, the medallion on his turban glows when he is about to attack.
Great Tiger first appears in Super Punch-Out!! for the arcade, where he is the fourth (second-to-last) opponent as well as the Champion of India. His special move in this game is the Tiger Punch, where he will unleash a barrage of bunches upon the player. In the NES Punch-Out!! he is the Rank #1 fighter of the Major Circuit. He uses his abilities of teleportation to teleport into the ring and to get up from being knocked up whenever he wills it, except in some occasions. His new version of the Tiger Punch involves using magic to fly around at high speeds and attempt to punch the opponent, but if the player avoids them all he will become dizzy and can be knocked down with one punch.
He also appears in the Wii Punch-Out!! as the #1 ranked fighter of the Major Circuit . This time his special Tiger Punch involves creating an illusion of himself and attempting to confuse Mac by having either himself or the illusion fly forward to distract him. He also displayed powers of levitation as well as a magic carpet outside of battle. Great Tiger can be challenged again in Title Defense, where he has trained hard and gotten a new costume, as well as the ability to create more mirages.
Other Appearances[edit]
Video Games[edit]
- In the Super Smash Bros. series, Great Tiger has been represented by a trophy in [[Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U]|Super Smash Bros. for Wii U]] and as an Advanced-rank Primary Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. His Spirit comes with the bonus effect of strengthening fist attacks. When fought in a Spirit battle, Great Tiger's Spirit would possess Incineroar and fight in a stamina battle. During the battle, two extra Incineroar would appear, in reference to his mirages, but only the original had to be defeated to win.
Trivia[edit]
- His birthplace may appear to change between games, but this actually reflects the city of Bombay being renamed to Mumbai in real life.
- In the arcade game, he was originally a clone of Piston Hurricane (hence his original Tiger Punch being a version of Hurricane's Hurricane Rush).
- In the NES game, he is a palette swap of Von Kaiser.
- Although he seems to speak English in the NES game, he speaks only in fluent Hindi in the Wii game.
