Hippodown is a deadly and powerful hippopotamus-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It is the evolved form of Hippopotas.
Information[edit]
Hippowdon evolves from Hippopotas at Level 34. Hippowdon has a huge mouth that is almost seven feet across with enough power to completely crush a car. They usually leave their mouths open as a sign of their power. It can blast internally stored sand from ports of its body to create a towering twister as an attack. Hippowdon is also surprisingly quick to anger.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum Versions, Hippowdon was found uncommonly at Route 228, being less common at night.

Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Hippowdon could be recruited at the first ten basement floors of Dark Crater. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Haruba Desert. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Layuda Island and the Thunder Temple. Hippowdon also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at the Bright Beach.
Other Appearances[edit]
In Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, several Hippowdon appeared in episodes of the Sinnoh series. One Hippowdon was in two episodes and was the father of a young Hippopotas. Bertha was also shown to own a Hippowdon, and in one episode Jessie of Team Rocket used one for part of a Pokémon Triathlon.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, one chapter of the Diamond/Pearl arc involved Dr. Footstep angering a Hippowdon by collecting its footprint. The Pokémon was angered and used a sand tornado that sent the protagonists and Dr. Footstep to separate areas.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a play on "hippopotamus" combined with "don" (as in a mafia lord) and possibly also with "power".
