Huntail is a deep sea eel-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is one of the two potential evolved forms for Clamperl, with the other option being Gorebyss.
Information[edit]
A Clamperl will evolve into a Huntail if it is traded while holding a Deepseatooth. Huntail live in extreme depths of the sea which are bereft of light, and because of this they went unnoticed by people for a long time. Huntail has a thin and sturdy spine in order to withstand the great pressure at these depths, and their eyes can see clearly even within the murky depths of the ocean. Huntail wiggles its body like a snake to move around. Its most notable physical feature is its tail, the tip of which is shaped like a small fish. Huntail can make the "eyes" of this tail glow and usually does so in order to bait in prey. Huntail will then swallow the prey whole with its large, gaping mouth.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In most games, Huntail is not found in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving a Clamperl. In Pokémon: Black Version, Huntail could rarely appear when fishing in rippling water at Route 4.
Other Games[edit]
Huntail could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire as well as in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Endless Level 55, Forever Level 5, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, it could be recruited at Miracle Sea and Deep Miracle Sea. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at the Sea of Wailord. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at the Canal Ruins.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Huntail was featured in an episode of the Hoenn series which featured a set of islands where the one focused in Huntail and the other focused in Gorebyss. The two factions often fought over which evolution was better, but Ash's group helped them to calm down. Aside from this, Huntail has made mostly minor appearances.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Huntail have made mostly minor appearances during the Ruby/Sapphire arc. Briney was shown to have one in his collection, and it was also among the Pokémon used by Team Aqua.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a simple combination of "hunt" with "tail", since it uses its tail to hunt for prey.
