Type | Boots |
Debut | The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time |
The Iron Boots are a type of equipment appearing in several games of the The Legend of Zelda series.
Information[edit]
The Iron Boots are a special pair of boots that make the wearer heavier due to having metallic soles. Although this footwear is impractical for combat due to the way it slows the wearer down, it is useful for several other functions. Wearing the Iron Boots will allow one to sink to the bottom of a body of water and walk along its floor. It can also weigh down the user for certain puzzles and break in switches that are too rusted to be pushed in normally. The boots also help Link to walk against strong wind currents.
Appearances[edit]
In Ocarina of Time, the Iron Boots were found at the Ice Cavern and were needed to explore the Water Temple. However, the Iron Boots had to be used in conjunction with the Zora Tunic for Link to stay underwater for extended periods of time. In The Wind Waker, the boots were found at Ice Ring Isle, which could only be accessed with the use of the Fire Arrows. The boots were primarily used for entering and exploring the Wind Temple, and Link could not go underwater in this game so the boots were instead used for their other functions on solid ground. While being weighed down by the Iron Boots, Link could even use the Hookshot to pull giant statues down.
In Twilight Princess, the Iron Boots were given to Link by Mayor Bo after Link bested him in a sumo match. Bo had used them to win sumo matches with the Gorons in the past, and Link proceeded to do the same. These boots had magnetic properties which allowed Link to walk on certain walls and ceilings of the Goron Mines. The boots continued to be useful in several other areas of the game involving both walking underwater and walking through strong gusts.
Other Appearances[edit]
Video Games[edit]
- In Hyrule Warriors, the design of several of Linkle's boots (the Winged Boots and Roc's Boots specifically) are based on the Iron Boots.
- In Cadence of Hyrule, the Iron Boots were one of the boot power-ups that could be found in different treasure chests throughout the game. Wearing them would increase the player character's weight while making it possible to walk on ice without slipping. Like the other boot items in the game, it was only temporarily equipped until its durability meter depleted or the player obtained a different set of boots.
Trivia[edit]
- The Iron Boots were originally counted as equipment on the collection screens, which required the player to manually switch between types of boots when needed. From The Wind Waker onwards, the Iron Boots were rendered another inventory item to make them easier to take on and off, and this change was reflected in Ocarina's 3D remake.
