Kadabra is a skilled psychic Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation games as the middle form of Abra's evolutionary line. Its evolved form is Alakazam.

Information[edit]

Kadabra evolves from Abra at Level 16. It contains strong spiritual power and emits special alpha waves from its body which can cause headaches and interfere with nearby machinery, such as causing clocks to run backwards. Its presence causes an eerie shadow to appear on television screens that is said to cause bad luck to those who see it. Kadabra can emit twice as many alpha particles with its eyes closed, and its psychic power also increases with the danger it faces.

Along with their unique mustaches, they are also distinguished by the spoons they carry. A Kadabra's silver spoon is said to amplify the alpha waves in its brain, and its telekinetic abilities will halve without it. Although Kadabra is known to evolve from Abra, there are also rumors that a boy with psychic powers who was participating in research on extrasensory powers woke up one day transformed into a Kadabra. Kadabra evolves into its final form, Alakazam, only when traded to another trainer.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Red, Blue, FireRed and LeafGreen, Kadabra could be uncommonly found at Cerulean Cave. In Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crystal, Kadabra rarely appeared at Route 8. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Kadabra were still rare but appeared at both Route 8 and Cerulean Cave.

In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Kadabra was uncommonly found at Route 215.

Other Games[edit]

Kadabra could only be attained through evolving an Abra in Pokémon Pinball as well as Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. In Pokémon Trozei!, Kadabra appeared at Phobosphere and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Kadabra could be recruited at the fortieth through forty-ninth floors of Buried Relic, the forty-sixth through fiftieth floors of Wish Cave and the thirteenth through twentieth floors of Solar Cave.

It also appeared in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness at the the first nine floors of Treeshroud Forest, the first fifteen basement floors of Spacial Rift, the first nine basement floors of Deep Spacial Rift and the first seventeen basement floors of Lost Wilderness. Within Pokémon Rumble, Kadabra could be found at Eternal Tower.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Kadabra is featured during Ash's gym battle with Sabrina as her primary Pokémon whom she shares a special psychic bond with. It evolves from an Abra during the battle and thoroughly defeats Ash. Kadabra was technically never beaten in battle, but Ash's temporarily acquired Haunter was able to make it laugh along with Sabrina, which wound up earning Ash the Marsh Badge. A Hoenn series episode later showed a Kadabra in a more minor appearances among a colony of Psychic-type Pokémon.
  • Kadabra is also shown as one of Sabrina's Pokémon in the Pokémon Adventures manga. This version could impersonate others, passing for Professor Oak before ambushing Red in its first appearance. It also acted as Sabrina's main method of transportation.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name (like its previous form) is derived from the generic magic phrase "abracadabra".
