Background[edit]
Kyle was an aspiring knight who was raised in Renais. Not much is known of his family life except that he had a sister named Mia who married into a nice Frelian family. Kyle had a strong sense of duty even as a child, and he tried to help everyone he came across. Kyle was good friends with Forde since their youth, and at one point they competed in a tournament for training swordsmen. Kyle on second place after losing to Forde. He idolized Forde on some level and was irritated that he did not practice more. This inspired Kyle to keep practicing and work hard on improving his skills. He assumed a very serious demeanor. At one point he visited Frelia for three days to deliver a letter to King Hayden and met Syrene along the way, who offered to show him around the castle town. Kyle declined due to wanting to stick to his duty, but he did let her take him to the shore, which he had never seen before. He was amazed and inspired by the ocean. When leaving Frelia, he came across a merchant being attacked by bandits and quickly tried to protect him, but this caused them to target him because he was a young knight. Syrene arrived and helped to fight them off, having looked for Kyle to give him a wooden pegasus figurine as a going-away present. Kyle came to treasure this keepsake and collected wooden figurines because of it.
He grew into a proper knight of Renais and often worked alongside Forde. Kyle had become serious and diligent to the point where he often criticized Forde for being so carefree and irresponsible, although he could not see that this was partially just the appearance that Forde put on. When Grado suddenly invaded Renais, Kyle and Forde wound up being part of Ephraim's small group of knights who primarily launched guerrilla attacks upon the enemy. Their only other companion was Orson, who would later betray them. They were first shown in "Chapter 5x: Unbroken Heart", when they managed to siege Renvall, although they were ambushed by Grado forces afterwards and forced to retreat. They returned to Renvall in "Chapter 8: It's a Trap!" in order to help Eirika's forces which had been lured into a trap there. Kyle and Forde argued over the best strategy, as Kyle wanted to unite with Eirika's forces first, while Forde suggested a focus on taking care of all the Grado forces. Ephraim was able to meditate on the best strategy, and both goals were accomplished in the end. When Ephraim and Eirika split their forces, depending on the character chosen by the player, Kyle and Forde either remained with Ephraim or were assigned to accompany Eirika instead. Regardless of the choice, Kyle fought loyally for the army for the remainder of the War of the Stones.
Possible Fates[edit]
Kyle has four different endings, depending on whether or not he reaches A Rank Support with one of the three characters below.
- Default Ending - Kyle continued to serve Renais's royal family without change. He became a battalion commander and gained much trust and responsibility for training new recruits.
- Forde and Kyle's Ending - Kyle and Forde were celebrated in song and story upon their return home. The narration comments that the greatest friends sometimes differ greatly in personality. They lived happily as dearest friends and toughest rivals.
- Lute and Kyle's Ending - Kyle and Lute married in Renais following the war. His friends were disturbed by his choice of brides, but Kyle was undoubteably happy. They soon had a son together, and Kyle dedicated himself to his upbringing.
- Syrene and Kyle's Ending - Kyle visited Frelia, where Syrene greeted him with a warm reception. They married only after they both had retired. They had a daughter together, who developed excellent skills in martial arts and etiquette.
Support Conversation Summaries[edit]
Kyle is capable of having support conversations with the following five characters:
- Colm - When Colm speaks to Kyle, he reports that he's worried about Princess Eirika, as she seems to be unable to get to sleep and keeps pacing. While Kyle states that it's important they get their sleep, Colm suddenly remembers a cure for insomnia that his mother used to make and decides to give it to Eirika. Later Colm to Kyle with 'big news', declaring that he has discovered that Ephraim hates studying as much as he does, which he considers to be bad news for the future of Renais. Kyle however dismisses it by saying nobody is as bad as Colm and not to bother him unless he has more useful information. In their final conversation, Colm declares he finally has some useful information and reveals that he knows about Kyle's secret girlfriend 'Meriella'. Kyle however explains that that it is actually a secret alias for undercover knights that use secret codes. Colm offers to deliver one such letter, but Kyle insists he's more useful on the battlefield, much to Colm's delight at being considered useful to the knights.
- Ephraim - In the first conversation, Kyle scolds Ephraim for recklessly rushing the enemy in their last battle. Ephraim claims he is uninjured but Kyle insists that he not take such risks due to his importance to the army. Ephraim reluctantly allows the knights to take the lead instead and walks out on Kyle, but Kyle does not think Ephraim will follow through with his word and endeavors to stop him before he kills himself. In the second conversation, they argue over a recent order for any unit to restrain Ephraim if he tries rushing ahead of the knights, as Ephraim wants to revoke it so that the units do not put themselves at risk holding back their commander instead of engaging the enemy. In the last conversation Kyle apologizes to Ephraim, having reached an epiphany when Ephraim rode to Kyle when he was injured and asked the others to take care of Kyle and treat him as Ephraim's brother. Kyle says that he always thought of himself as a loyal retainer and failed to notice that their bond runs deeper. Ephraim admits that being raised as a prince he was taught to be detached but still kept attachments to Seth, Kyle and Forde, regarding them as his family. Kyle realizes his earlier decision was wrong and rescinds it, saying that it would help the soldiers' morale if their commander fought on the front lines. Ephraim also compromised by promising to be less reckless in the future.
- Forde - Kyle walks in on Forde while he is painting (or sketching as Forde corrects), and he is confused by Forde doing so in the middle of the battle. Forde says he does to to keep record of their battles through his pictures, and Kyle dismisses that as a rationalization, telling him he had to start acting like an actual cavalier. Kyle becomes agitated by Forde's reluctant attitude and bluntly insults him before claiming he did not say anything. Kyle then asks to spar, seeing it is a more productive use of his time and pointing out how he utilizes all of his time efficiently for the sake of the war effort as he sees it as his duty. They end by summing up the conversation as Forde tells Kyle he has to take himself less seriously, and Kyle insists that Forde take his duty more seriously. In the next conversation, Forde wonders why he is so lethargic, and Kyle chastises him for sleeping on the battlefield, proceeding to lecture him about his lack of self-preservation, comparing his common sense to that of an infant. This prompts Forde to jokingly speculate that Kyle must planned strategies to take over the nursery as an infant. Forde points out how stuck up Kyle always has been and is surprised that the ladies still like him, but Kyle refers to it as irrelevant. Forde points out the importance of having an heir and thinks Kyle must be a gentleman to most ladies. He recalls how Kyle had helped a crying little girl when he was little, and he thought it was cool. Kyle insists that he could just never turn his back on someone in need due to being a knight, even though he was not yet. Forde admits that he respects Kyle and then laughs at his embarrassment. In the final conversation, Kyle comes to Forde looking tired, saying that he was lost in thought and was trying to find some breathing-room, realizing that this is why Forde paints. Kyle realizes the point in Forde clearing his head by painting, but he refuses to go as far to condone it being done on the battlefield due to the potential negative influence on younger soldiers. Kyle asks Forde how long he has been painting, initially interpreting his silence as forgetfulness, but Forde then tells him the story behind his painting resulting from his mother's death. He mentions the tournament from their youth, which causes Kyle to admit that he initially strove to improve himself because of the time he lost the tournament to Forde. Forde wonders what it is about Kyle that causes him to talk so much and become unusually introspective. Kyle asks Forde to teach him how to paint when the war is over, and Forde agrees as long as they get out alive first.
- Lute - Kyle comes to Lute and proposes that she aid him in making diverse battle strategies for the coming battles due to her magical prowess. Lute agrees to this even after Kyle tells her they will be battling on the front lines and that it will be dangerous. In the next conversation Kyle compliments her on the success of their strategies and the wonders of magic, and Lute says he is an incredible fighter himself. Kyle begins to talk about his rivalry with Forde and she says he should be glad to have a personal adversary that he could measure himself against. Kyle then notes this is the longest conversation they had and seems surprised, admitting that she did not seem to be interested in other people. Lute replies that she did get a little interested in him. In the next conversation, Kyle checks up on Lute in the middle of battle and sees she is fine but tells her not to push herself because she is vital to his strategy. He then asks her about her hobbies and interests, which prompts the usual odd answers and her mention of "monk-watching". Kyle is amused by her answers and says that he never gets bored of her but finds her inexplicably refreshing. She says that she likes talking to him to, which leads Kyle to invite her back to Renais following the end of the war. Lute cites no objections, which makes Kyle laugh more, and they agree to get through the war first.
- Syrene - The two meet up with each other and know each other's names. Syrene points out that they knew each other ten years ago, which surprises Kyle as he has trouble realizing that this Syrene is the same Syrene whom he knew in his childhood. They agree to catch up after battle, and Syrene tells him to be a hero again. Kyle does not recall the incident she refers to, so Syrene tells her to see if he can remember it as his homework. In the next conversation, Syrene checks up on Kyle and criticizes his stuffy response. He still has not remembered the time she was referring to, and Syrene realizes he has not changed and has always been so serious, recalling when he refused a tour of Frelia's castle town when he visited Frelia for three days as a child. Kyle apologizes, which Syrene laughs at, and he fondly recalls how he saw the sea for the first time during this trip. He remembered wanting to feel as strong as the ocean, and Syrene feels it was the first time she saw the real him. They promise to visit the Frelian coast again after the war ends. In the final conversation, Kyle tends to Syrene's wounded pegasus and tells her it is not her fault that she did not notice the wound because the pegasus was hiding its weakness to look strong. Syrene feels that she is not fit to be a pegasus knight and that her ignorance endangered them. Kyle assured her and that he would always be there for her and finally recalled the memory he was talking about, when she came to help him fight off a group of bandits outside Frelia. She remembers she had come across him in battle while trying to give him his going away present, a wooden pegasus that Kyle still carried on him and which inspired him to continue collecting wooden figures. Syrene asks him to consider visiting Frelia again when they are at peace, and Kyle agrees to this. He promises that this time, he will truly enjoy Frelia.
Trivia[edit]
- His sister, Mia, is only briefly mentioned by Forde during their support conversations. She coincidentally shares a name with (but is otherwise unrelated to) Mia from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.
