Lyle Smithsonian is a soldier of the Galactic Federation working under Adam Malkovich who was featured as a supporting character in Metroid: Other M.

Background

Lyle was trained as a special ops soldier, although he was known to be somewhat jumpy with a gun around insect-like creatures due to his intense fear of insects. He also seemed to specialize in demolitions. Smithsonian was part of Adam Malkovich's Seventh Battalion that was sent to investigate the Bottle Ship at the beginning of Other M. They met with Samus Aran there, and Lyle panicked when they wound up facing Brugs, although Samus was able to deal with them.

The battalion split up afterwards, and Smithsonian was sent to check out Sector 1, the Biosphere. He was sent to secure a route to the Exam Center, where a meeting of the battalion was later called. Smithsonian did not make it to the meeting and was not seen again alive. It was theorized that he was killed by the Deleter, James Pierce, and whether or not this occurred, his body was later torn apart by the reptilian form of Little Birdie, and his colleagues later discovered his remains.
