Michalis is a character who appears as a boss in Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Tsurugi, Book 1 of Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, as well as appearing as a supporting character in Book 2 of Monshou no Nazo.

Background

Michalis was born to the king of Macedon. He was trained as a dragon knight and was always a step ahead of his younger sister Minerva, who idolized him. And their youngest sister Maria idolized both of them. Despite their happy beginnings, the family underwent a tragic turn as they grew up. His father refused to aid the Dolhr Empire, even though Archanea had not sent reinforcements to aid Macedon. Michalis thought that his father was a weak king and wanted to accept Gharnef's proposal of an alliance with Dolhr. In reality he was planning to eventually betray Dolhr with Camus so that Macedon would become the most powerful country in the continent instead of Archanea, but the king shot down his ambitions. Gharnef also spread rumors that Minerva would succeed the throne, which was the final straw.

Michalis murdered his father and blamed it on an Archanean assassin, at which point he became the new king of Macedon. He then talked Maria into willingly becoming a hostage of Dolhr in order to force Minerva into also serving the empire after she learned the truth of their father's death. It was apparently at this point when Michalis shed a tear and began to truly feel guilty for his actions. At one point, Lena was summoned to the royal court of Macedon. Michalis immediately wanted to marry her after first noticing her because of her beauty and wisdom as well as her ties with the elder nobility. However, Lena spurred his advances and fled from Macedon as a result.

Book One

In Chapter 22 (17 SNES), Michalis went into battle with Marth's army when they made their campaign in Macedon. Prior to the battle, Michalis urged Gotoh (apparently not a prisoner despite being an enemy of Gharnef and Medeus) to retreat to safety. Gotoh complied, but not before harshly criticizing Michalis and calling him a fool. Michalis admitted that both he and Minerva (whom had defected to Marth's army after Maria was freed) were guilty of treachery, but that he was superior due to wielding Iote's Shield. When battling Minerva, he said more clearly that there were no right paths, only his and Minerva's two paths which would never cross. Michalis refused to stand down, and he was apparently killed with Minerva's spear.

Book Two

However, Michalis was later revealed to have survived. Maria had recovered his body following the battle and tirelessly treated him. He realized that she was like an angel to him despite all that he had done to her. Michalis eventually fully recovered and resurfaced three years later to investigate Maria's mysterious disappearance as his repentance. He first showed up in Chapter 3, when Ryuke's rebel forces had imprisoned Minerva, and Michalis threatened Ryuke into letting him through to save Minerva. Michalis whisked Minerva away and later dropped her off at a village in Khadein to await Marth's army. She expressed relief that he was his normal self again, but Michalis claimed that he had always been this way even when he killed their father.

By the beginning of the final chapter, Michalis had located Maria in Gharnef's clutches. Although Michalis was unable to rescue her, he did steal the Starlight tome from Gharnef and delivered it to Marth, being fatally wounded in the process. With his last words, he asked Marth to tell Minerva to rescue Maria in his place if she was still around, and left Maria's fate in his hands.
