Mismagius is a powerful chanting ghost Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It was introduced as the new evolved form for the second generation Pokémon Misdreavus.

Information

Mismagius evolves from a Misdreavus that has been exposed to a Dusk Stone. Mismagius have been known to appear when least expected and to release cries which sound like chanted incantations. These cries usually torment targets with headaches and hallucinations. On rare occasions, these incantations are instead imbued with a happiness-giving power.

Mismagius have normally been obtained only through evolution. In Pokémon: White Version, it had a rare chance of appearing in rustling grass at the Abundant Shrine.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Mismagius could be recruited at the seventh through fourteenth floors of Dark Crater Pit and the first nine floors of Mt. Mistral. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Almia Castle. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Sky Fortress and the Light Temple. • In the Pokémon anime, Mismagius was first featured in an episode of the Sinnoh series where a wild Mismagius trapped Ash's group as well as Team Rocket in a series of nightmares for fun. It was also featured as one of Fantina's Pokémon during her gym battle with Ash, but it lost to his Chimchar. Other Mismagius have appeared belonging to trainers such as Cocoa and Grings Kodai in the thirteenth Pokémon movie. Zoey's Misdreavus also evolved into a Mismagius prior to the Sinnoh Grand Festival.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Mismagius was featured as one of Fantina's powerful Pokémon during the Diamond/Pearl arc, although Platina was able to beat it during their gym battle using Diamond's Munchlax.

Trivia

• Its name is a play on "mischievous" combined with "magus" (which is a term used to refer to magic users).
