Paper Mario: Color Splash is a Super Mario RPG that was released for the Wii U in 2016. It is the fifth game of the Paper Mario subseries (not counting the crossover game Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam) and the only one to be released for the Wii U. This installment reprises the changes to the gameplay, look and storyline style that had been implemented in the previous game.

Story[edit]

Mario and Princess Peach travel to Prism Island to investigate a mystery. Various parts of the island have been drained of color, and it turns out that this is because the six Big Paint Stars that power the island's fountain of paint have been stolen by Bowser and the Koopalings, who soon kidnap Peach as well. Mario embarks on a journey to gather the Big Paint Stars and defeat Bowser once again.

Gameplay[edit]

The gameplay is similar to that of Sticker Star, except that the stickers from that game have been replaced by several different types of collectible cards. One other big part of this game is paint, which Mario can use to spread color where there is none through his Paint Hammer, and cards can also be painted to increase their effects.

Legacy[edit]

Sequels[edit]

It was followed by Paper Mario: The Origami King for the Nintendo Switch in 2020.
