Type Dinosaur
Debut Super Mario World

The Reznor is a triceratops-like miniboss that was originally featured in Super Mario World.

Information[edit]

Reznors act as minibosses who are faced at the end of fortresses or towers. They are usually fought in groups of four, and their battles are usually the same. There are four platforms that move around in a continous circle in front of a boarded-up background. One Reznor is usually situated on each platform, where they remain stationary and regularly try to spit fireballs at their enemies. This is their only attack. Another risk involved in the battle is that the bridge below them slowly crumbles, although it is possible to board a Reznor's platform after defeating one.

To defeat a Reznor, an opponent has to jump into a Reznor's platform to knock them off or attack them with power-ups.

Appearances[edit]

The Reznors originally appeared in Super Mario World, where they were featured as the minibosses faced at the end of four fortress levels: Vanilla Fortress, Forest Fortress, Chocolate Fortress and Valley Fortress. Each battle played out identically. They could be defeated by hitting their platforms or attacking them with fireballs. It was also possible to dissipate their own fireballs with the cape power-up.

Their only other appearance as in New Super Mario Bros. 2, where they were battled at the end of the game's six tower levels. There were several variations in this appearance. The Reznors received a modified design, and their platforms were changed into long ? Blocks that would each give out a single coin. During the first battle, the player only had to battle two Reznors Other battles featured four Reznors, but some had two wheels of platforms, with two Reznors at each wheel. In this game, Reznors attacked less frequently, and the bridge's destruction took longer. They were once again beaten by jumping into their platforms, or with a power-up such as the Fire Flower or Invincibility Leaf.

Other Appearances[edit]

=Video Games[edit]

  • In Nintendo releases of Minecraft, Reznors would appear replacing Ravangers as part of the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack.

Other Media[edit]

  • In Super Mario Adventures, Reznors were shown as beasts that Bowser kept in his castle, and some were also seen riding a set of platforms while attending Bowser's attempted wedding to Princess Peach.
  • They made several appearances in the Super Mario-Kun manga. In their first appearance, they spun their platforms around too fast, causing them to fall off and defeat themselves. In their second appearance, only one Reznor was shown to be real and pursued Mario into a Switch Palace. There, Mario scored multiple lives and used clones of himself to defeat Reznor.

Trivia[edit]

  • They are named after Trent Reznor, the lead singer of Nine-Inch Nails, similar to how the Koopalings were mostly named after musicians.
  • Reznor is known in Japanese as Buibui, which is Japanese onomatopoeia for a peace sign. It is also similar to Bunbun, the Japanese name for Boom Boom, who preceded Reznor's role as a miniboss in Super Mario Bros. 3.
  • In Super Mario World, the boarded up area of their arena included a sign reading "REZNOR". The sign did not reappear in New Super Mario Bros. 2.
  • In Mario Golf: World Tour, a Reznor costume is available for Mii characters, as well as a corresponding ball and club set.
